This is my first post here. I’ve been coming here for some time now as I am learning the wonderful world of Matchmoving. And wondering if anyone might be able to help.
I tracked and solved a shot without undistorting the plate. But due to the elements that will be in the shot, almost entirely replacing the background, I need to use an undistorted plate.
When undistorting the plate I had to add padding. I planned on using the Apply/Remove Lens distortion script, so I wouldn’t have to re track, as it is a very difficult shot.
My question is how to add back the padding in the Apply/remove lens distortion script? Is there a formula for figuring out what the U and V scaling would be?
The padding I used was .1 all around the image. So 10% larger on each edge, or 20% larger width and height. The script worked great if I didn’t have padding, the points lined up and everything. It’s just understanding how the padding works out in the script that has me a little boggled.
Thanks in advance for any help
The VFX Business Contracts, Profit, India
Posted in: The PadI’m a college student who is having an extremely hard time getting any meaningful information on how the vfx industry works. I’m trying to put together a paper on how well the big name studios do (profit, bargaining power with clients, etc.), while also talking to the rise of outsourcing of vfx/animation work to India.
For India, I am wondering how they price the contracts, ie. how much below US market price do they have to go to get the work. Can they make money just doing a lot of the fairly unsophisticated work? Are directors open to working with Indian firms? Are there sucess stories? I can find a little information about some Indian firms and US firms that now have a back office in India, but information on how these companies function is very hard to find. I can understand what the Indian vfx companies do as far as projects, but I have not understood how the business/relationships are run.
Any help would be tremendously appreciated. I am barely treading water with what is accessible on the internet.
Can we animate the distortion of a footage in syntheyes or any other tracking software ?
Codec that captures colour profile
Posted in: Apple ShakeI’m working remotely on a project with someone who is on a mac, I’m on a PC (Linux). We are working on the same file, but it looks different on his mac, and different on my PC…
I’m doing some rough colour correction work in shake, so am wondering if there is a codec (Quicktime, or other), that embeds the colour profile, so the files I share between me and my counterpart look similar in colour…
What’s the best codec to achieve this?

thx
the bg is static and is not changing the aspect ratio and the cg elements are changing into the 2:1 aspect but I expect the bg also should change to the same aspect ratio
what could be wrong with my setup?
when I press ctrl + shift + p the cg elements get resized but not the bg
I double checked in the file read node it has both root and proxy are set to 2:1 aspect ratio….
what could be the fault?
what I an doing is importing and *.obj (plane) and the tracked camera out of syntheyes.
the reason being is that I plan to use this as a hold out matte for a table top that has a huge amount of spill on it.
Now this whole concept works a treat….
BUT
it not a perfect fit in some places so what I want to be able to do is modify the plane corners to fudge it into place.. but as far as I can see there is nothing to do this, there is the trilinear node but this is a box mod and it also offsets my plane.
any suggestions or am I going to get an RTFM of this one.
cheers all
