First background created
Posted in: GalleryThe image below is my first stab at making a matte background for an independent show. This was done using photoshop as the main program. I plan on having it animated with thunderous clouds and maybe your occasional flickering horror porch light. Hope you enjoy the image and note that this is only my first dry run.
VFX… gotta love it! 😈

A new British sword and sorcery movie (a sequel to an early 80s fantasy movie) is going into production this year. We are looking for talented young CG artists for work on CG creature design, set enhancement, blue screen – in fact all the disciplines.
This is a paid job – and we are looking for up and coming talent, so don’t be put off if you are a student or early into your career. If you’ve got the talent, we want to hear from you. Please email me with a link to your work online / showreel (if possible) on hydrofilms@hotmail.com
Alternatively, email and I will provide a contact address for sending showreels to.

Paper Animation Pt. 3

Crush’s Yoho Hang Yue for World Fishing Network
Posted in: broadcast design, fishing, General, idents, IDs, silhouette, torontoCrush’s Yoho Hang Yue (reel) lent his expert comedic timing and spot-on character animation skils to the World Fishing Network for a series of chuckletastic IDs. The soothing compositions of silhouettes against warm backdrops sets up a false sense of calm that’s happily obliterated by each ID’s punchline.
Watch six of the IDs here. Visit Crush’s site.

after tracking a lens corrected sequence in boujou i want to re-distort the rendered images.
after setting up the "Lens Adjust External Sequence" dialog and hitting "save" i get the following message: "Input sequence is wrong size".
the camera is set up to 1920×1080 (HDTV), same dimensions as the imported sequence. the rendered .tiff sequence is also 1920×1080 in size and has an alpha channel which should be supported by boujou (checked manual).
does anybody know whats wrong here? there is no information in the manual about this error message.
thx alot,
cya!
6 color Matte Passes?
Posted in: Beginners TalkR, G, B, RG, RB, GB
If you take RG split it up. And invert and subtract it works as long as there is a color behind it. But it then double subtracts when on a black background.
I’m sure there is a little script which can break out 6 colors… or a colorx node. Anybody already done this?
Thanks
Before you go “arg, what a crappy short!”, I have to say this. This is not the complete thing. The purpose I did the previz is to layout the shots, get the animation flow and camera looking right. There isn’t any lighting as I used mainly maya defaul lights, the shading is still in its primary stages, effects like smoke and explosions are all preset based. Lots of things in my head that i plan to add, but will be in stages. Most of the stuff I did are in my first trial, including modeling the car. Please post comments or critique, and I will look into them!
Stuff I plan to add/change:
1) In the opening shot, I am thinking of adding a god’s ray effects to create a more dramatic sky look. I am thinking of either a gust of dust flying by or some leaves flying by or BOTH.
2)For the shots with the sky, there will be changes as some are just still shots and I really feel that without some partial movements of clouds, it really feels dead.
3)Heads up display or HUD, is my first attempt. I know it look amateurish and I am thinking of ways to polish it up. Is the amount of details on it alright or too little? I am thinking of adding some screen noise, like those tv/computer monitor effects. Comments?
4)For the smoke effects, i am thinking of changing it from a particles shader to a fluids shader to make it look more realistic. Going to experiment with that.
5) For the explosion effects, they are too little details. I planned to add some primary and secondary debris flying out. Might add a shockwave effect.
At the end of the day, I am making this for my fx-td portfolio. Instead of a plain effects here and there thing, I try to create a small small short film that I can include with some storytelling as well. Please critque this previz and I look forward to your comments!
