shooting HDRI

Hi everybody,

Few days ago I managed to get the chrome ball and I want to shoot some HDRI images now.. I have Canon 20d with the tripod.. The problem is that I don’t have remote control for the camera (or whatever that thing is called) so I have to change Shutter Speed by touching the camera and as a result camera moves slightly for every shot… Would it be possible to connect my laptop to the camera and operate its parameters by using some kind of software? Any advices and suggestions are really welcome…

Footage color breaking down

I have noticed time and time again the footage that was taken using our in house camera has a major issue with color loss and an overall breakdown of certain hues. It shows up mainly over water. I am using shake to try and correct this issue, but having no luck. I have a snippet of the water area of one of the shots to give a visual of what I am talking about.

It bothers me to death seeing it constantly and not being able to find a method of bringing the color back. Has anyone else encountered this before and is there a way to fix it?

Thanks

PFTrack Help

Hey guys,

At home my major matchmove software is syntheyes, and due to some staff cuts I am now doing some matchmoving with the house’s software of choice PFTrack. I have a strong understanding of it for a basic level, but there is one issue that I am having that I was hoping someone would be able to help me with.

I have an extremely long 1900 frame Aerial shot which I autotracked, cleaned up and added a few supervised of my own. When setting the scene orientation I align everything to the ground plane and all is well. Not quite… The solve goes smooth up until the revolution around the center of interest gets to the opposite side it started on. It is there that the scene orientation is way off target and is not even close to matching the ground plane.

What I am asking is how I would go about aligning the ground plane throughout the entire shot in PFTrack given the info I have shared. Sadly I cannot share the footage, but to give an example; "Large building on the left is center of interest and helicopter does a 180 around it with very little movement other than the general revolution.

Thanks a lot for your time guys.

cheers

FCP + AJA Kona = gamma shifts/chroma artifacts

Maybe this is not the best place to post about such thing but I’m trying to look everywhere I can for some help since I’m literary ripping my hairs because of that
I’ve got a problem with Kona card. Its AJA Kona 3 put into 8core MacPro on Tiger OS . I’m using Kona card with FCP environment to capture footage in 8bit uncompressed codec from Sony digibeta deck using SDI. Then I export those files into TGA for compositing in Nuke and AE, There are 2 issues, first one is gamma shift. I’ve attached a link to uncompressed image ( 4xzoom ) to illustrate those problems.

http://pawelk22.website.pl/AJA_QT_error.tga

As you can see there is a gamma variation compared to the actual footage that is on digibeta, we checked it twice by ingesting it using flame.

2nd, more disturbing issue are the artifacts in the RGB channels. THe are mostly visible in blue channel.

I tried all things to check out when those thing occur.
Lodead frames in motion captured in Flame – everything was ok until I converted to QT using AJA 8bit uncompressed, after that I get those artifacts. Tried Prores also, same thing. The only way I can work in QT is to use no compression at all – that means no realtime playback. but that solves just half of the problems.

I still need to get footage from tape and record it back. Using AJA card I can only capture/edit to tape using native AJA QT codecs.

My software is up to date, QT is updated as well as drivers from AJA.

I realy have no idea how to fix this problem, and the worst part is that I was hoping to base my work on AJA workflow. Help out.

thanks in advance

Shake interface issue

Hello. I have a question that’s been plaguing me for awhile now. I’m using Shake for a compositing project and everything works fine. I’m pulling a key from greenscreen footage, so I’m using the lookup/hls node. First time I set it up, it works fine, and I can mess with my levels to pull a nice key. However, when I save my work, and come back to it, I am absolutely unable to access the curves editor. Just to make sure that I’m not being completely dumb, the shortcut to bring up the tweaker is apple-t, right? For some reason it just won’t work, it just keeps toggling the time bar to display a different timecode. T, apple-t, shift-t, ctrl-t, alt-t, ctrl-alt-t, apple-ctrl-t, fn-ctrl-alt-shift-apple-capslock-t, every combination you could think of just makes it toggle between seconds and frames on the time bar. Not only that, but making a new node also doesn’t let me bring up the curves editor. Even making a new project won’t let me do it. The issue only seems to occur on my macbook pro, when working on one of the macs in the studio on other projects it works just fine. This isn’t an issue of transferring across computers, the entire project has been local from start to finish, or at least start to dead end. And if I leave shake alone for awhile, like a month or so, and start a new project, it works fine again, until I save and quit, and come back to it. Then we’re back to square one.

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? Is there an issue with my mac registering the modifier keys? Because it seems like it always just thinks I’m hitting T. Do I have the wrong shortcut? Is there a weird setting somewhere that’d make it do this?

Industry Cameras??

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to do some research on cameras (both digital and film) and I was wondering if you could point me to the most popular models that would be used in the Film industry..?

Matchmoving and Boujou

I have used Boujou and I really like it. In boujou you can switch over to a camera view and see a mock version of your camera and the move in 3D space………….can you see the same type of view in Matchmover and PFTrack? (the camera moving and you can swivel around the camera and zoom in on the line of movement)

Music?

Hi guys dos any body here know where i can purchase music on line nothing special but am shooting something just random things and i would like to have cool music to edit to it. Something cool with beat is there such a place.

Thanks
