Getting started on tight budget

 Living on So Shallow Security, I want to be sure I don’t invest in a lot in unnecessary software. All I have now is ViaCAD 2D/3D v5.0 and the crappy Paint program that comes with Windows Vista Home Basic. I have used SoftCAD 3D and a verrry early version of Truspace.

I have two projects in mind for which I shall need 3D animation, and perhaps mechanical simulation software.

First, I need to illustrate some concepts of my Fractal Foam Model of Universes. This involves animated 3D distortion grids superimposed on a random foam structure. The distortion is in the form of sheer waves and pressure waves. Actual simulation of this phenomenon probably requires megabucks worth of hardware and software; for now, I just want to illustrate what I think a simulation might reveal and post it on my future website. (I don’t have the web building software, yet, either.)

Second, I have some mechanical inventions that are best illustrated with animated CAD drawings. I would like to have software that warns of overlapping solids and excessive stress. Part hierarchies are of moderate importance to me.

Third, for fun stuff, I want good rendering, textures and ray tracing.

I appreciate your comments on what does and what does not contain the features I need, and how much they cost.

Maya Fluid’s and Particle Interaction

Hi,

i have done an Explosion using Maya Fluid’s and a separate Explosion using Particle Clouds… now i need to blend both my Fluid’s and Particle… i need actually the Fluid’s to interact with my Particle.. i tried blending in after effect’s but its not happening the way i need.. ether Fluid come’s in front or Particle come’s in front… How will i blend both in such a way the both are interacting and Exploding

I am VFX and 3d Animation Student

Shake rendering issue

Hey guys,
I had a bit of a random cool effect, but most definitely not what I need for this shot rendering error occur. Basically rendering out a quicktime movie with any of the codecs we use makes all of the green screen elements become living gumball machines (random chromatic pixel noise)

I have never had this issue before, and we primarily use AE in house. This was a rare occasion where an old shake script needed to be brought back to life and updated. The flipbook shows everything exactly how it is supposed to be.

I tried a tiff sequence as well, but the BG was gone and just the green screen elements appeared. Its not a hard comp to remake on the fly, so I am not too worried. I am just curious as to if any of you have come across this issue before and if you found a fix.

cheers

Maya 2009

HI,

If i open a simulation done using Maya 7 in Maya 2009 will i get the same result that i got in Maya 7

Good beginner tutorials for Cinema4d?

I’ve decided to learn some cinema4D to add to my motion graphics repertoire (The occasional 3D logo or text, etc….) Any clues to a good beginner’s tutorial series? Preferably movies and not just a book – I learn by watching much better.

The consensus among a lot of traditional 2d compositors is that Cinema4d is the easiest and most straightforward for 3D objects and motion graphics. I have to agree – Blender and Maya left me scratching my head, but I’m already zooming along with cinema4d and the quickstart guide Maxon has for version 10.

Using ZBrush and Apple Shake?

Does anyone know what kind of export from zbrush would be best to bring it into shake and composite it?

For example, I sculpt a building in zbrush and want to place it in a scene with shake. let’s just say the camera is stationary.

Compositing

Hi, I’m Simon and new in the VFX community.
At the moment I’m playing around with some programs and got some questions.

I use Fusion as compositing software, but I use other programs too (3D, compositing, painting, particles).
My question is the following: how do you combine programs? Is it right to render some layers in After Effects and put them together in Fusion with some pictures and perhaps footage rendered in other software?

Second, when I’m rendering 3D, is it better to render every pass (shadow, highlight, depth, reflection … ) separated and put those together in Fusion as well?

Thanks in advance 😀

Making of realistic terrain

Im a compositor and right now im in modelling. Which software is best for modelling realistic terrain with rough and bump surface in it. can anyone help me. i have spended more than a week for searching this:confused:
