HELP me for my carrier in Compositing

HELP me for my carrier in Compositing Hi.. For past 1 year i am working as a graphic designer.. but my only aim is VFX.. I am very much interested in compositing.. My skills in Compositing package’s are : Eyeon Fusion v5.3, Autodesk Combustion, Adobe AE. 3D Tracking software: Boujou
Other softwares skill: PhotoshopCS3, IllustratorCS3,Sound forge,Adobe Premier
etc..
but i did not know to work with 3D softwares like max or maya.. but i know all the basic knowledge about lighting, camera, texturing, 3d animation etc..
now my question is, shall i can able to move with these software knowledge to Compositing jobs?

photochemical noob

maybe im too young and naive, but up till now every film i have worked on has had a DI. now this current project im comping on has a photochemical delivery. i guess im too spoiled with technology but im completely clueless with this method of doing things. i wonder if some of you could give me guidelines for working in a photochem pipeline.

i dont see how i can get a LUT, but how do i have any idea what my shots will look like on film?

how do i get my VFX shots to match the color of the rest of the scene?

Sean Pecknold – Fleet Foxes ‘Mykonos’

Remember White Winter Hymnal? Sean Pecknold’s debut Fleet Foxes video with the killer hand-crank star trails shot?

Pecknold (aka Grandchildren) just completed a beautiful new video for the Fleet Foxes track ‘Mykonos‘. The two-triangled hero and his shape-shifting antagonist strike a nice visual balance between abstract imagery and recognizable characters.

The first time watching what caught my eye was the elegant polygonal shapes (jellyfish, birds, castles, rolling water). On repeated viewings it was the story-related details that kept me coming back – the moments where the triangles switch between walking and flying, the man in the castle sending spindly patrolling legs into the forest, the triangle offing the guard and his subsequent tumbling sequence/final battle (or at least that’s what I got out of it).

The video was completed in four weeks using glass plane animation technique, with only two days for post. Check out the behind the scenes for some down and dirty making-of action.

Matchmoving / VFX Reel

Hello everyone.

This is my matchmoving & visual effects demo reel. It’s mainly personal work, with a couple of shots from some TV shows that I’ve worked on for the BBC.

Here’s the full-sized Quicktime (44Mb):

HELP….How much to charge????

First off, for what I’m about to ask, I know there is no specific answer. What I’m looking at is just ideas of how much something high end is priced out to do a comparison for my own pricing. I apologize if this question is in the wrong section, but it just seemed like a question like this should be asked here.

My question is, after watching award shows like the Oscars and the Grammy’s, I was wondering how much does an award show broadcast package go for? I would imagine that these packages include a show intro sequence, bumpers, nomination packages, lower-thirds, overlays, transitions, wipes and some stage elements, such as motion tiled backgrounds and the like.

Has anyone done anything of this magnitude here? How much should the price change if the event is televised (state-wide through major cable network – Viacom subsidiary)?

I know most say, "Well just charge what you’re comfortable with," but no one wants to drive off business or get underpaid by being uniformed. It would be great to say, such-and-such company got paid XYZ dollars for the grammy’s package which of course was nationally televised on a major broadcast station, so i’ll charge XYZ dollars for this project based on the scale of your audience. Something to that effect.

If I can get concrete or ballpark numbers that would be most beneficial. I’m just tired of hearing, "Just imagine what you want to make a year and divide that by how many hours you’ll think you’ll work and Voila!" I say I don’t like that because CLEARY some jobs are worth way more than others! Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I’m sure this can serve as a good reference to those finally turning their talent into $$$$.

BTW: I plan to use 3D animation, particle systems and advanced compositing techniques with After Effects and Combustion.

removing object on cloth/fabric

here is my problem: ive got a person wearing a tshirt with a logo on it. now i have to remove the logo on the shirt.
ive to admit ive no clue how to solve this problem so it will look good in the end: stuff like folds are a problem. i thought maybe the paint tool might fix the problem but it cases a lot of jitter and it seems like it cant get rid of the jitter if i just blur it.

then on the other hand ive to admit im pretty new to fusion and i hardly know anything about the program so any ideas/solutions and suggestions are more than welcome.

Motion Graphics ? [C4D Mograph Plugin]

Hi there.

I’ve been using Cinema 4d for some time, and quite happy with the results I get from it. However, without fumefx and afterburn, sometimes it becomes meaningless to use it.

Ok. Here is my question.

I moved do max for dynamics & simulation capabilities of it (and its plugins). However, this time it became almost impossible to create some complicated motiongraphics with it, although Im not sure if it has a plugin like Cinema4D’s [Maxons’s] MoGraph plugin, which is directly about procedural animation..

Let me ask you one example question, and how can thet be done in MAX:

[With MoGraph plugin of Cinema4D, I could create a movement depending on a waveform of a sound file (using an object called Sound Effector); which is basically getting the equilaser data and uses is as a movement input (to move, scale or rotate the 3d geometry). I want to create a similar effect in MAX; so I thouth there could be equivalent tools to create some advanced motiongraphics like it can be done in Cinema4D’s MoGraph.]

I hope this thread explains my problem well.
