Edge issues using black matte.

I’m having trouble with comping my character with my background.

In the renders below you can see the problem on the edge of the
feet where they meet the branch. The alpha channels don’t match up to make a solid alpha where the foot interacts with the branch. The next two pictures show the individual layers that make up the comp. There is a background layer and a character layer. The character layer has a black matte branch in to block the foot so the character can comp it over the background.

So I found a fix for the alpha in post (see comp_skyFix) but the other problem is the edge where there was no sky the sand in the background is visible in the edge where you expect to see just foot.

I know I can split the branch off onto its own pass for this shot but this could be hectic with more complex shots. Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks allot.

Color correction on AE

Hi all,
Need some help from expert professionals here. I have been playing with plugins and color correction in after effects but I just can’t get the rite color I want.
How can I color correct the footage as shown in the ‘red.tga’ to something like ‘normalcolor_resize.tga’.
I’ve tried a few plugins and color correct but I can’t standardised the color.
Is there any way to kill the red and I still can tweak on the color?I need to make the face looks better too.
It would be wonderful if anybody could help me out with these questions. Thank you.

Z depth in Toxic or Composite

I have been trying to find tutorials on the net using Zdepth to help composite images together. All I can find is how people use them to make Depth of Field. I am using a book called "The art of Digital Compositing". The book explains that you are able to use Z channels to help composite two images that have Z channels and blend them together. I have a render of trees and floating spheres. Each have their own Z channel and I would like to comp them together to have the balls appear withing the trees and not just on top.
Is this technique possible with After Effects or more preferably Toxic (Composite)
