FX question

I’m currently putting together a short film and a ghost opens a padlock on a shed door and drops it. I was thinking of using wires but is there a way that I can get someone to open the lock in camera and remove their hands so that it looks like the lock is opening itself. Any practical help would be much appreciated

Technical question about adding shodows to a BG plate

I was watching this tutorial about compositing CG passes to a plate and in the video showed a way to add the shadows that got thinking about what is technically correct.

When I add my shadows to a plate I use an alpha mask to drive a color corrector and I color correct the BG plate to create a shadow of my CG.

In this tutorial, it showed that a constant guizmo colored with the shadow values was masked by an alpha and then put over the BG plate.

So I’m wondering as to which way is technically correct?

Thanks for the help!

Switching comps while running scripts:

Is it possible to get some variables from one comp and apply to another while running the same script.
Basically, I want to take the file path from current comp’s saver, open a new comp and put that path into a Loader…:fingerscr

So, if I’am in comp1 and running the script to get saver path, thn opening existing slate comp (comp2), trying to put tht variable in MainLoader of comp2,
while doing this, the script looks for MainLoader before opening the new comp and gives error…
Any idea?
