tracking in pftrack 5

Hi! I want to track using user-features in PFTrack 5.
Thing is, after I placed my user-features in the shot, they disapear after the first frame. That is of course because they arent tracked.
So my question is :
How do I track using user-features in PF Track 5?

Ivé seen video tutorials from previous PFTrack versions showing that you select your user-feature, rightclick and choose Track forward( or backward) but those options are not existing in pftrack version 5 as far as I know.

Alberta oil-sand mining exposed: La Moustache for H2Oil

H2oil
Happy Friday, Mographer fans! And what better way to celebrate the end of the week, than with a timely dose of ‘issue’ animation.

La Moustache, the new animation company operating out of Montreal have created these compelling animation segments for the acclaimed new documentary H2Oil. The documentary, produced by Loaded pictures exposes the ‘enterprise of epic proportions’, which is the Alberta Oil sands industry.

So what’s up with extracting oil (or bitumen rather) from Alberta’s oil sands and why do we need to know about this? Well extracting bitumen from oil sands (Often referred to as tar sands) is a hugely energy intensive process, requiring industrial scale heating (using natural gas) and 4 barrels of fresh water to produce one barrel of oil. So right there you have the depletion of the planet’s most valuable and scarce resource, clean water, along with the burning of natural gas to create another carbon emitting fuel…and so it goes on. Add to this the explosion of ‘rare’ cancers in areas where post industrial contaminated water is let back into the environment, and you have a bona fide, 100% proof environmental catastrophe on your hands. And tar sand mining is only going to increase as the world’s conventional oil wells dry up…

Despite the animation itself being rendered by the friendly hand of James Brathwaite (of I met the Walrus fame), it makes for uncomfortable viewing and in as much it does its job perfectly. Sequences are inventive and dynamic whilst tonally staying in keeping with—and never overshadowing—the subject matter.

For me, viewing this work and the trailer for the film came as a real wake-up call. I try and keep up with environmental news as best I can, yet I still thought of tar-sand mining as the institutionalized crazy uncle who’d never actually get released. After watching these clips it’s obvious that the lunatic has well and truly taken over the asylum.

Also, please remember that budgets for documentaries and specifically documentary animation are ridiculously low, especially compared to commercials and studio features. So La Moustache have almost certainly invested much of themselves into making animation of this level for a documentary film that doesn’t yet have a wide scale theatrical release.

For a fairly neutral overview of tar-sand mining check this link.

Sub D UVW mapping workflow question

I recently decided to get my hands dirty for the first time using Sub D’s and am not to far off finishing my first model using this method of modeliing.
However I have noticed that UVW mapping for Sub d’s is somewhat limited when compared to say poly mapping, with sub d’s only having planer and automatic mapping.
Just wondering if there is a best practice method to map sub d meshes?
Use the tools available to you in sub d?
convert to poly’s and the take it from there?
Perhaps even duplicate the sub d mesh then convert this to poly’s, lay out the uv’s and then paste the uvw’s to the sub d mesh?

Or is it a case each to their own on this on one?

WANTED: Visual FX Artist for Indie Film

Hi,

I’m currently in pre-production on a low-budget independent supernatural-adventure-horror-comedy feature that’s scheduled to shoot in the summer of 2010. I’m looking for a digital effects artist to create a few specific effects which include:

Some "Frighteners" style ghost glow, muzzle flashes, bullet ricochets/hits, two explosions, and a fiery tombstone that falls from the sky to crash on the ground.

The film is very low budget and you can learn more about it here (www.fightingowlfilms.com) and here (www.thenightshiftmovie.com). Due to the budget we’re unable to pay, but will provide full credit and a final copy of the film on DVD for demo reel purposes. Anyone interested can reply to this post or email me at info@fightingowlfilms.com

Thanks!

Private Message

Hi, I’m trying to send a private message to a user here. I did send a PM 2 weeks ago but now I can´t find the compose button.

Can anyone help me to find it? Or maybe it is not an option anymore.

Thank you.

WMIG TRAVEL LOG: THE KINFOLK LOUNGE.

3414516383_4fe8a36a07_b1

On our recent journey to Japan, we visited our friends at the Kinfolk Lounge, located in a trendy and very fashion-centric area of Tokyo called Nakameguro. From the street, you can view a chalkboard sign and a few Kinfolk bikes hanging upstairs, while the speakeasy sits on the second floor above another cafe. Inside, you’ll see killer Kinfolk Keirin frames of a rainbow assortment suspended from the wooden rafters. The decor is described as vintage Japanese meets modern day safehouse, perfect for meeting locals and travelers of all kinds. Kinfolk isn’t your everyday cycle company; their bikes are classic, lugged-steel Keirin beauties, hand-made in Japan. At the lounge, we hung out with our good friends John and Ryan and had some great times drinking biiru (beer in Japanese) and shootin’ the unchi ’til daybreak. Not only do these guys make beautiful frames, but the drinks are pretty enchanting as well. So, the next time you’re in Tokyo, stop by and tell the guys hello from WMIG. Now we just need to get these bikes here in NYC!

Compositor/Prep-Artist required immediately

Hello,

We are based out of Vancouver, Canada, and we are looking for a compositor to help us on an intern volunteer freelance basis, to clean green screen plates and possibly comp, if they are available. We have found many talented people on VFXTALK, we just need one more to help us out.

Our short film is nearing completion, and we just need a few more shots done. The film will be sent to festivals, and we are trying to make those deadlines within the next few weeks, and into mid November.

The film is a dark Children’s fantasy, set in gothic victorian time, narrated throughout the entire film. Not for profit.

Attached are some images. This is an exciting short, with lots of festival potential.

We are looking for someone who uses Nuke, can work with FTP, and has open availability to work DAILY on shots.

*ONLY those who can commit to working daily on their shots, will be considered. We are not interested in dragging out the film because of an artists inability to work on their assigned work, within a timely manner.

All artists are credited in the film/website only once work is approved, and complete. They will also receive a copy of the film.

-2D Tracking
-Plate Clean up
-Comping assets
-Match established Color Correction

Despite the volunteer basis, we ask that you treat this as any other opportunity, serious committed applicants only.

Please let us know, by sending your reel and resume, location to phatalbert_animate (at) hotmail (dot) com.

This position is ASAP.

Thank you,

-Albert
