Maya EXR handling poll within Photoshop

Sorry – this is a crosspost from CGSociety. I am looking to get a better idea of people’s opinions on Photoshop’s EXR file handling and it’s fair to say that Maya users are probably the most frequent users of the EXR image format. So I’m asking users here to tell Adobe how you want EXR transparency handled by default. Do you want the alpha data for renders set as layer transparency or as a separate alpha channel? The current default handling is to embed the alpha in the transparency (apparently, this is closer to the actual specification of the format) and there is the other behaviour (as an alpha) is optional with a plug-in:

Any comments are helpful. thx

programming, distribution

not sure if this goes here but it’s maya related. a friend of mine is a programmer, does a lot of renderman stuff, so we’re thinking or teaming up to create shaders and tools for renderman and maya and mental ray in the future.

I am not a programmer and he has never creating anything for sale so we are not sure how licensing will work as far as protecting the software, i.e. serial numbers/node locking and making sure it will work with renderman and maya.

If anyone can point us in the right direction or knows how to do this, we would appreciate any info.

Thanks

District 9 dropship sequence

Hi everybody!

I’am a student at Lost Boys Learning and we are currently working on our UFO Project.

Therefore i wanted to create a work in progress thread about it.

My UFO Shot will be the Dropship sequence of district 9.

I created a previz animation with the low res plate and a rough model and animation. ( BTW. the dropship is coming out of the ground)

Also i finished modeling the dropship.

Starting on the textures today.

I’m gonna keep this thread updated frequently.

If you have any questions critics or comments please feel free to respond to this thread. Input from other artists is always highly appreciated.

Looking for VFX Supervisor

Looking for a VFX supervisor who can help achieve an effect similar to the one in this commercial:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpRnV…eature=channel

The shot needs to be approx. 1.5 seconds. While I am by no means a VFX expert, I have studied it quite a bit to get a better understanding form a directorial standpoint. My guess right now is that the shot I need will require 3d animation, compositing, and hopefully a match move, however the MM isn’t mandatory.

As this is a spec commercial, I obviously can’t pay much(approx $1000), and I hate to promise future work because the world just doesn’t work according to promises in our industry. However know this, I am looking for a collaborator and someone I will work with repeatedly on future projects.

A quick bit about me: I mainly work on docu reality series for the likes of Discovery Channel, TLC, and Travel. I am in the process of making the transition more into commercials and music videos.

Please let me know if you are interested.

relighting 2.5D

Hi,

I have watched the dvd from digitaltutors about 2.5D relighting in nuke

I have tried to redo it on a simple scene and I have some problems

the edges of the objects are not cleans, there is a little outline around the objects.

in the dvd, the instructor said to render pointworld pass and normal pass aliased and apply 2 matrix afterwards in nuke.

i did that too but it seems that doesn’t work for me.

I’ve also tried to render with antialiasing and no matrix but it doesn’t work neither.

is anybody have an idea of what I can do to fix the edges

here is the script if you guys want to check
