hair/fur shafts more than just 2 colors (root and tip)?

I’ve been hunting for a few days now and am not finding an option for this.

is there some way to have more control over the color of the hairs in maya fur? or anything really, I tried the puppet shader’s p_hair, 3dsMax hair and fur modifier, and shave and a haircutut and it’s all the same settings (root and tip are one solid colour, and mapping the base or tip just maps where on the object it’ll be, not the shaft itself).

For sake of simplicity, what I want is each hair should be a rainbow: red at base, yellow in middle, blue at tip.

any ideas? I’m open to learning any software package and/or any plugin, I’m just baffled I can’t find this as an option easily and readily so far.

Tezro Booot Problems

Anybody out there still running a Tezro? Stop laughing.

OK anyway, after a 5 hour power outage the other day (long enough that battery power died) our Tezro won’t come up. The LCD screen shows the following messages:
001c01
Prom Booting
(then after a minute or so)
Gfx Cfg Err

Things we have tried so far:
Disconnected the box / blew out the dust / reseated the boards / reconnected everything. No effect.
Swapped out the mouse & keyboard (I read somewhere online to try this). No effect.
Swapped out the outboard DMediaPro box. No effect.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point as this box is ancient and out of any kind of warranty…

problem with addOnScriptSave

hey guys,
i have this few lines of code to copy a script to another location after it’s saved.

Code:

import nuke
import shutil

def myfunction():

      currScript = nuke.Root()['name'].value()

      backupPath = 'path/to/backup/folder/'

      shutil.copy(currScript, backupPath)

this is the entry in my menu.py

Code:

import myfunction
nuke.addOnScriptSave(myscript.myfunction)

when i overwrite a script that already exists, this works like expected.
but when i try to save the script as a new script, i get an error message. this file doesn’t exist. so nothing is saved and nothing is copied.
i understand that ‘addOnScriptSave’ is executed before the script is saved. so this is an expected error.
i tried ‘nuke.scriptSave()’ before ‘shutil.copy(currScript, backupPath)’, but this gives me another error message: ‘maximum recursion depth exeeded‘.
would be great, if someone can point me to how i get the script saved before the copy command is executed!

thanks a lot,
d
