how to create stingy fluid?

hi there.

i`m new here and this post maybe wrong here but
i want to ask how to create stingy fluid.

i`m creating smoke using maya fluid and some smoke works good.
but oneday , the director came and saw my smoke , and order me:

"top edge of this smoke on crashing effect should be stingy."

if you cannot understand above , it may be may expression is bad or something.
to make explanation short , ordered smoke is this youtube of 0:09-0:15 ;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IJY2…eature=related

i`ve never seen stingy smoke effect like this on real smoke.
i`ve thought that animetic smoke does not exist on real .
so althought i could not create stingy smoke by maya fluid , anyone would not blame me.
because maya fluid is physical base fluid simulator, then ,
smoke action that real smoke never act wont be created by maya fluid.
but sadly i found this:

4th photo is what i want to create.
when real smoke acts like this, i should create it.
but i wandered about it.

how to create it?

Best approach for particle FX (via bird wings)

Hello all,
I have a question regarding the best approach on generating a particle effect from the wings of a crow. Here’s the scenario in a nutshell. Ultimately, I would love to have the style of effect that is portrayed in Harry Potter with the death eaters (a type of cloth particle that is airy and black).
I’ve been working in the field for approx. 8 yrs and I’m a bit stumped on what my best bet would be on this effect. In short, I need the bird to be perched on a branch, then begins flight away from camera. Now I would like to have the effect happen as the wings come up, then particles generate off the bird and into thin air.
My platforms are Cinema 4D, After Effects and Realflow, but i’ve never needed to attempt something of this nature. Any advice or input would be appreciated. Cheers and thanks in advance, Andy

3dsmax + nuke at the same time = slow !

Hello,

When i run 3dsmax (even on idel, low priority) at the same time as Nuke, Nuke is sooo slow responding.
When i close max, Nuke’s speed is back to normal

I’ve set memory usage to 50% in nuke

Any ideas ?

Nuke path syntax

Hi everybody,

I have just started trying nuke and immediately found a problem with my folder syntax.
My projects folder is [ Projects ], that way it’s always on top of the other folders. Seems that nuke doesn’t like this, as when I move the files on desktop it doesn’t happen again.

The error is "projects: unknown command" on the loaded image in the node editor.

Is there some way to fix this problem, or do I need to change folders syntax?

thank you,

Matteo

Oprah and the launch of OWN.

Launching on January 1st 2011, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network is a natural extension of the hyper-popular daytime talk show, and surely one of the few networks in the world built around a single figure.

With Oprah’s recent visit to Australia, the nation has grown even more enamored with the women and her message, and despite my gender-and-age I’ll happily admit that she produces an incredible show with a relentless message of personal growth, interwoven with philosophy aligned with the likes of Jung or Frankl.

Two years in the making, Philadelphia based BIGSMACK designed the new on-air look through “the numerous branding twists and turns” taken prior to the channel launch. On the technical side, the largely animated look of the network is complimented by a number of organic touches:

To create the on-air look BIGSMACK shot an array of natural elements — including light reflected through a variety of objects like crystal and Plexiglas, as well as water, glitter and particle dust — on a soundstage using a Canon 5D camera. That organic basis was then composited with digital elements animated using Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects.

The montage gives a taste of the IDs, menus, bumpers and lower thirds created for the network, along with the colour coding of the various dayparts (orange mornings, green afternoons and purple evenings).
