DAZ 3D Releases DAZ Studio 4 for Hobbyists and Professionals

Today DAZ 3D introduced DAZ Studio 4, the latest version of DAZ 3D’s character creation, art and animation tool. DAZ Studio 4 makes the creation process fun, while setting the new standard for 3D figure design tools by introducing the Genesis figure platform.

“We’re excited to share our new technology as it provides a fun and easy-to-use platform for both our hobbyist and professional customers who want to create high-quality graphics,” said Dan Farr, CEO of DAZ 3D.

DAZ Studio 4 provides an advanced platform for versatile 3D human models. This platform is the basis for the new Genesis series of figures from DAZ 3D. The Genesis series allows for a virtually limitless set of figure variations that can all be built from a common base. These variations can range in both size and proportion while sharing a single joint system.

“Everything from muscle-bound freaks and curvy super-heroines, to toon-style kids or frightfully disgusting monsters can all be created and combined together in infinite combinations, limited only by the artist’s imagination, to form a completely new custom 3D model,” explains Dan Farr.

DAZ Studio 4 utilizes a new file format that is lightweight, easy to transfer and exists in an open format for easy editing. No longer satisfied with the inherent constraints of building upon a third-party platform, DAZ 3D established a new, open platform. DAZ 3D has also announced that they will support any other vendors that offer this file format within their tools.

Key DAZ Studio 4 features include:

TriAxTM Weight-Map System: Artists now have unparalleled flexibility with our patent-pending weight-map per-axis joint system.

Auto-Rigging: Artists can now take the base Genesis mesh and push or pull it into virtually anything imaginable. Both proportions and mass of the figure can be altered in a variety of ways. DAZ Studio 4 automatically adjusts the Genesis base skeletal rig to fit within the new shape. http://bit.ly/m0QhAz

Auto-Fit Plug-in: This tool, available separately, allows customers to up-convert clothes and hairstyles from DAZ 3D’s prior generation of figures for use with the new Genesis series so that their past investments are protected. http://bit.ly/im8s9S

Smart Content: This new content tells DAZ Studio 4 what type of asset it is, and what other assets are compatible with it. DAZ Studio 4, in turn, can then filter out anything that’s not compatible with what the artist is working on.

Content Management Service (CMS): This allows customers to easily find their content by keyword, category and/ or compatibility by using a standard meta-data structure. http://bit.ly/iut1Vg

Pricing and Availability

DAZ Studio 4 is available now for free download in both Macintosh and Windows formats. The Auto-Fit plug-in is priced at $99.95 and both are available via the DAZ 3D website at http://www.daz3d.com/studio.

Film Festival Digi Beta?

Hi all,
I am a newbie to Film festivals and was just informed that my Blu-ray copy can not be used in the Film Festival.

They need :
DIGI BETA or BETA SP

What are some common ways to "Render, burn, transfer, " to Beta?

I have used "Print to Tape" in Premiere to transfer the HD movie back to the camera (Canon XHA1) but I am not sure if this is the same thing.

Also, i’m sure that there are ‘BETA TRANSFER" studios out there that will transfer it for you, but I was wondering if this is the "NORMAL" way of doing it, or would you do it yourself ?
Thanks,
Lou

New Camera Based Motion Capture + Motion Control Data Management For TD’s

cmiVFX Releases New Camera Based Motion Capture + Motion Control Data Management For TD’s
High Definition Training Videos for the Visual Effects Industry

Princeton, NJ (May 26, 2011) – cmiVFX launches its latest full feature series training video’s titled "Camera Based Motion Capture : Capturing Reality". In the last few years, many companies went to use different programs ( 2D and 3D ) and different devices (motion capture, motion control) to achieve specific kinds of shots to meet difficult or critical creative needs. A generic problem presents itself during this hybrid use of different programs and devices (programs made by different companies ) which is the process of data exchange between them. Every program or machine has its own logic which could be different from other rest, but they all share the same blood, which is the data. Traditionally, we may face problems transferring animation or objects data between programs or between device and a program ( motion control to 3D camera ) in our production line. Most of you would tend to wait until the software companies create a plugin to do this work for you. Unfortunately you simply can’t do that in real world scheduled VFX spot. We have to act immediately upon demand and learn to create these tools and utilities ourselves in order to get our job done effectively and on time.

Well, guess what?… cmiVFX is going to show you how!

Here at cmiVFX we maintain a current training library for the latest versions of popular software titles. When it comes to high end CG and VFX training, there is only once choice… cmiVFX! This video is available today at the cmiVFX store for a Special Introductory Offer Price!

Don’t forget about the cmiSubscription plan! Get one today. cmiVFX launched the most affordable subscription plan in Visual FX Training History for only $299 USD, and if you were a subscriber, this New Training Release would already be in your account. Camera Based Motion Capture : Capturing Reality
(Camera based motion capture tracking ( automatic solution ) and building custom data Importer inside 3DSMax)
http://store.cmivfx.com/tutorials/vi…Motion+Capture

During our adventure, dealing with pure data will enable us not to just transfer the data between different parts of our production line, but to manipulate this data, and customize it the way we need to suit our use, AND MAYBE ( as in our course ) to invent a new solution for an old problem using two cameras to capture human movement and automatically transfer the data into a custom character in 3D, without the need of expensive motion capture device or other solution.

We can also, create our own data file format and extension to package special kind of data for use in other programs or to save this data out to disk. We will create tools to save our character and camera’s animation in .CSM file or other custom file format to use that animation in other program ( Max, Maya and Endorphin in this course ) or to save it to disk, or even to send it by internet for general use, such as usual BVH and CSM motion capture files.

This lesson will also show you how to import a camera’s movements data from special devices such as motion control camera into our 3d package, with all its parameters, and to export 3D camera back to the same device after modifying the motion path or even creating totally different camera movement. We will create a camera importer and exporter ( FLAIR DATA ) from and to motion capture device..

We will solve the usual problem transferring our animation data effectively between different 3D programs ( in our course Maya, Max and Endorphin and in the next video releases: Houdini and Cinema 4D ) we will demonstrate that between character studio in Max and a custom rig, which we will build in Maya, and another character in Endorphin. (Can substitute for Motion Builder)

You don’t have to be skilled rigger, match movert, Max scripture or Mel genius to understand and to practice doing and creating these tools in this course. We started from scratch just like you will. (We do not hide anything from you) The learning structure used in these videos, gears all users up to be able to follow its contents from start to beginning. This is one of the few videos made that allow a novice or experienced TD’s and mid level 3D artist the ability to learn on the same level.

Capturing ( character tracking ) a woman movements with two cameras :
In this chapter, we will talk about character tracking using two different cameras with angle differences. ( the conditions and the best solution ) Then we will go through the process of tracking the movement of a woman from two additional HDV cameras, using Autodesk MatchMover step by step (solid tracking method ), then we will create a coordinate system, and export the tracks of the woman and the cameras into 3DMax. Following that, we then setup the 3D scene to receive match-mover data correctly.

Building a CSM ( character studio motion capture data file ) from scratch:
In this section of the video we will explain Motion capture file structure ( CSM mainly ), and how to extract information from this kind of files, then we will go through the process of applying those files into characters in 3d ( Character Studio in this case ). (NOTE: The process that we show can be used in other file formats in almost the same manor. Your not locked to 3DMax)

Baking and Application
In this portion of the video we wil build a custom CSM exporter to save the MatchMover tracks as .CSM file, then we will use this file to Automatically control our character in character studio transforming track data into typical motion capture file ready to use on any character. During this process, we will build a custom baking keys utility for our tracks.

All the material ( live footage ( Red, 35 mm, and HD ), and motion control flair data ) used in this course, are used in real commercials, to transfer all real production conditions through this long course.
We are not assuming ideal conditions which can work for specific lab work, but we preferred to bring real stuff, real problems, such as daily VFX work so that you too can fix those problems during the course, and to mimic real production line circumstances, step by step.

Well, what are you waiting for?! This video is available today at the cmiVFX Store: http://store.cmivfx.com/

RITCHI-AREAL: Augmented reality installation
