Transform quality

Hi,

this might be a stupid question, but: i just observed something i couldnt really explain. When you scale images down, the quality is getting really bad. No matter what filter i try, i tends to become really pixelated.
Now here’s the thing: while clicking and dragging your transform handle, you can see an opengl(?) realtime preview of what the resulting transform will look like. This preview looks waay better then the final result, when you let go of the mouse! I observed this the case only when scaling down, not up. Also, the breaking point seems to be at about 50 %. From this point down, it gets worse.
So the question is, why is the preview so much better than the final? I mean its crystal clear when the final is not even recognizable anymore. How to achieve the same quality for the final?

New 3ds max Fluid simulator(PhoenixFD) sets new standards

I was searching for some inspiration and came up to this.

http://chaosgroup.com/en/2/phoenixvideos.html?BAN=VID

Pheonix simulator

You simulate in realtime, 2 times faster then Fumefx, 4 times faster then Mayas fluids. They say that all in the video. Anyone tried it? Much easier to setup. Its so easy it makes me cry that I was learning dynamics for 1 year.

By this video any monkey can do explosions now 🙂

I didnt used mayas fluids yet but I know fumefx needs ages to simulate and then I had a 5 gig file of simulation data, altrought the results look so so not unbelivible impressive from this vidoes.

VFX & 3D Animation Masters Degree – Where to study?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently looking for a Masters degree in the area of VFX and 3D Animation. As I’m currently based in Austria (where good education in this area is relatively rare), I’ve decided to look for universities all around the world.

Is there any degree program you can recommend?

I’m looking forward to every reply!
