Drench

There are a bunch of cool new postings at fxguide. Check out Mike Seymour’s article on Hiring Around the World, with tips and info from recruiters at some of the big vfx facilities. Mike also has an fxpodcast with vfx supe Matthew Unwin about MPC’s ‘Cubehead’ Drench spot, with some behind the scenes clips. Then there’s Jeff Heusser’s report from the VES 1099 Dilemma event which looked at labor issues facing companies and artists. The latest fxguidetv episode has interviews with Animal Logic artists about their briliant Legend of the Guardians animated feature, plus a round-up of the new term coming at fxphd. The latest RED centre podcast has an interview with the guys behind the RED Barn and Vegas HDRx shots, plus the Red Bull Stratos in the RedRoom and the Teradek Cube Ninjas. And if that’s not enough, head over to the Tom Cruise blog which has a posting on visual effects training (and mentions fxguide and vfxblog!).

Call of Duty Black Ops | Biped Warfare

Hey Guys

This is just a little project i have been working on, i know there is a problem with the middle of the animation in that i didn’t blend the simulations together correctly so it switches directly between two simulations

What do you guys think of the overall video though? matchmoving, colour correction etc?

Rendering full HD in Nuke ?

I have a shot full HD and the frames are about 12MG each. I import it to Nuke and after when I want to render it it has a size of 5MG or so? How come? The proxy mode is off, the render is set to full HD…. How come it gets smaller size?

relighting a 2d image

i have some green screen footage with no directional lighting beign comped into a scene with obviose directional lighting. I want to be able to somehow do a basic relight on my greenscreen actor.

in flame I would add a slight displacement on the 2D image in z space and light that.

for some reason i cant get the displaceGeo node to work correctly on my card.

also if you creat a ligth in a scene and then don’t want it anymore how do u get the nuke default light to work again?

Alpha Projections (how to?)

In the 6.0 release Alpha Projections was added to the list of features.
The manual entry for projections dates 2007 and still say its not possible to project alpha.
Every time i project onto a object, the part of the object that is not covered by the projection is just black, while i offcause want it to be transparent.

So i wonder how i project alpha onto a object?

Matchmover in the SF Bay Area

I am an experienced matchmove artist just wrapping down on my most recent project and looking for the next one.

In brief, I have a bachelors in VFX and four years of CG experience. I’m experienced in Maya, Matchmover, Boujou, PFTrack and many other programs.

I’m located in the San Francisco Bay Area and hoping to find work in the area although I am open to the possibility of re-locating for the right job.

keylight artifacts

Hi,

i´m working on some greenscreen shots, comparing different keyers and settings.Keylight is giving me some headaches. It does a really good job on the edges and for the despilling, but it also introduces horrible artifacts within the image. I tried different settings to avoid it, but it seems, that only switching the keyer to “intermediate result” gets rid of those artifacts.

There doesn´t seem to be any information inside the image to justify such artefacts, the matte is clean it looks like there´s some problem in the despilling algorithm. One thing that improves the image is when I turn the replacement mode to “hardcolor”. Still you can see those artifacts, but it´s slightly better.

Any idea what could cause this problem? I also tried primatte, which is doing a pretty good job, but not as good as primatte would do concerning the edges.

Here a link to an image that should clarify the problem.

footage was shot on a red cam.

Thank you for any help
