Averaging linear and cubic interpolated values = ?

Hello all,

I’ve been playing about with interpolating visual data – so far I can see how linear works mathematically but don’t have the knowledge to grasp cubic interpolation yet. Looking at the output data I can see each method has its own tendencies and characteristic failures (certainly once you chuck in worst case images like points, blocks and checkerboard high contrast data) …

I thought upon looking at the output, why not just use the mean value of a linear and cubic interpolation outputs ?

Kind of a hedge your bets methodology…

Perhaps this just a redundant and wasteful operation which could be achieved within one cubic interpolation itself ? (some sort of internal fiddle or what not of the algorithm).

Not that I can see it yet but maybe I’m creating a contradictory system with even worse artefacts ?

Building a computer for doing 3d work

Hi guys

I’m in the process of selecting the components for building a new computer, but i would love to get a general feedback before i make the purchase.

Let me first begin by telling you what i will be using the computer for: Primarily, this will be my everyday computer, for surfing the web, gaming, as well as 3d character building and animation – through Poser, Cinema4d, 3dStudioMax, Vue, Zbrush. (with majority of the work first done in poser… then importing them to the other software for touch ups and render)

for the case:
Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

or
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…ck%20Steel%20A

Processor(cpu):
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…82E16819115215

Graphic Card (gpu): just one:
XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…01GB%20256-bit

Motherboard is still undecided, but most likely one that supports sli or crossfirex so i can run two graphic cards at the same time in the future if i do decide to get another graphic card to lessen the time required for rendering.

memory: most likely will start out at 4 gigs of ram.

Question:
is this good enough of a rig for what i want to be doing with the machine? is i5 enough? the reason i’m getting i5 is so i can save some money and put that towards the graphic card and getting other decent components for the computer… hard drive, ram, power supply, case.. etc.

how about the graphic card i selected? is it good for doing 3d work? it is an ati card, but if anyone can suggest a better graphic card in relatively the same price range, i’m open to suggestions (doesn’t have to be ati since i haven’t really decided on a good motherboard yet)

lastly, if anyone is tech savvy, how about a motherboard recommendation? one around the 170-199 range. supports either sli or crossfirex or both, as well as all the other good stuff like sata3, usb3. etc.

Skeleton model

This is a personal project I have been working on for the past couple weeks, and I am now looking for some constructive critiques (I was told this is a great place for it) Let me know what you guys think if you don’t mind 🙂

Syntheyes to Nuke, pointcloud problem

Hey guys,

When I try to export my Syntheyes scene to Nuke, I have two problems.

1: Upon import I get the error that the Camera01Render.filtering_enabled knob doesn’t exist, and that the Camera01Render.false is missing a value. The Camera01.Render refers to the scanline renderer node from the syntheyes script. When I click the error away, it imports everything as it should.

2: The points appear very small in the 2D view (when viewing the scanline renderer/Camera01Render). Increasing the trackersize in the Trackers node doesn’t work. And more important, the points don’t appear anywhere in the 3D view.

Some extra info:The camera seems to work, the planes I’ve imported also seem to work. I’ve exported the syntheyes scene with renderable trackers.

When I export it with non-renderable trackers, I get the same error, only difference is that there has been a plane parented to the camera which shows my plate, and the trackers are converted to axis (which do show up in 3D).

Anyone got an idea how to get the export with renderable trackers working ?

Compositing Improvement Help

Hey guys – actually I would appreciate some critiques on one of my relatively simple stills. If anyone got some improvements in terms of compositing I would be glad to hear it. Hopefully the resolution is okay and there is no major thing missing which helps the render integrate better – oh yeah obviously its the cube in the front I’m talking about ^^

thanks so far – paul 🙂
