Grain Tool for CCD Video

I use Full HD Video 1080i (JVC GY-HM700E) and have many problems to integrated rendered CG-Elements to the original footage, because the grain tool has a terrible handling to set the exact seamless grain.

Is there custom Control (setting) with the default F6 Grain Tool to add CCD camera grain and to set Y-Channel to 0?

CCD Video has less grain in the dark and white areas and a lot more in the grey areas and also it is not round – CCD grain is quit horizontal (x=100 Y=0)

The Attachment shows the Combustion GrainTool where you also can grab a range in the original footage

RED to DPX

Hi guys,

is there a way to save a RED cam file as a dpx sequence?

Thank you very much in advance

Have a good Easter

Announcing Motionographer Studios

Today we can finally reveal that the rumors that have been floating around the mograph and design forums are all true. As of Monday 3rd May 2010 Motionographer Studios will be open for business. Headed up by founder and executive director Justin Cone, Motionographer Studios will simultaneously open bi-costal offices in the US; in Santa Monica and New York, as well as their European office in Soho, London. “We’re thrilled and excited that all our plans are finally going live”, says Cone, “Our creative team, compromising the combined talent of our Motionographer authors are already in production on several exciting projects. As everyone can see from our talent’s bios, we can offer the best creative and execution, no matter what the technical demands of the job”.

Obviously we’ll keep you all up to date with Motionographer Studios here on our very own blog. We’re also planning launch parties for all three studios, dates to be confirmed. But true to form, Cone promises the studio launches will certainly be something to remember. “We can confirm that Vampire Weekend are slated to play at our Santa Monica launch and it looks like Florence and the Machine will be entertaining the launch party goers in Soho”. Queens of The Stone Age are as yet to confirm to play the New York office launch. Check back here for our launch party ticket competition in a couple of weeks time.

Infinity Citizen ~ Wow

Not new, almost a year old, but recently came across this again and WOW is appropriate. Directed by Kosuke Oho of www.w0w.co.jp, a short film about the infinite possibilities of the circulation of energy through Tokyo. Audio by Masato Hatanaka.

Yes, we love us some frankfurters! But we’re not talking about those delightful sausage and buns conveniently shaped to fit in the palm of your hand. We’re dishin’ about the mega awesome I Love Hot Dogs blog. Capturing the quintessential stills of a motion picture, Shannon Maldonado, pares countless movies down into an easily digestible story. Within the swift scroll of your mouse, you can flip through a catalogue of French New Wave films to Gen X classics like Up In Smoke and The Warriors. Do yourself a favor and peep it!

workflow – object tracking with moving camera

hello,

i want to track an object, shot with a handheld camera and have massive problems to get it right. because of that i really would like to know what a good workflow would be.

the footage is a moving greenscreen with heavy movements. i’d like to implement another animation in this greenscreen, therefore i need to track it in to it. what i tried was to roto the object of intrest and tracked it afterwards. the solve wasn’t really satisfying and i guess the reason is because of the missing greenscreen-environment-relation.

i’ve seen lots of object tracking tutorials but there were all the time based on a static camera. so now i am wondering what the right way of doing this is.

do i need to track the handheld camera movement aswell and substract or add the movements of the object tracking?

thank you for your help,

arrg

EDIT:
I attached a preview of the footage. I am aware of the bad quality of the footage(missing tracking marker, light differences and so on) which makes the whole 3d-tracking-thought almost impossible. i just want to understand the workflow of the object tracking with a moving camera for coming projects.

Smithson v. Oeffinger Layer Tennis Recap

Last week Daniel Oeffinger and Matt Smithson played a slo-mograph match of Layer Tennis. Their match was done over the course of 5 days, with 2 rounds being posted each afternoon. Each night they designed their scenes in Photoshop and Illustrator and animated them in After Effects. The final film clocks in at over 4 minutes – full of original animation that they both produced completely on their own! Impressive, hilarious and a little crazy. We absolutely love it.

We caught up with them after the match wrapped up to find out more.
