Hippies Finally Do Something Worthwhile.

ripcurlcanyon_03

We used to be able to write the things off that we didn’t like with just one word: hippy. But now, these hippies at Ball – Nogues Studio are doing really cool stuff that we can’t easily dismiss with a blanket generalization. So check out the amazing architectural anarchy these hips are churning out of their environmental design sweatshop.

“Ball-Nogues Studio is an integrated design and fabrication practice that creates experimental built environments to enhance and celebrate the potential for social interaction through sensation, spectacle and physical engagement while striving to infuse the matter of the built environment with a downstream purpose. To achieve these results, we work with unusual materials, develop new digital tools, and apply architectural techniques in unorthodox ways. We share an enthusiasm for the fabrication process as it relates to the built object both physically and poetically by letting the properties, limitations, and economic scenarios associated with a material guide a structure’s ultimate form while developing methods to extend the intertwined boundaries of a material’s aesthetics, physical potential and lifecycle.” – Ball Nogues Studio

nVidia Drivers Problem – Black Flicker When Resizing Window

It’s an issue that seems to pop up when using Vista Business 64-bit SP1 with any version of drivers from nVidia. When resizing the interface, the main window flickers black. An obvious problem that I cannot seem to remedy. I have two systems that I have tested this nagging issue on and both yield the same result.

My two systems are:

1. HP xw8600 – Quadro FX 5600 – 16GB RAM
2. Dell Dimension 9200 – Quadro FX 1400 – 4GB RAM
(both with clean installs of Vista Business x64 SP1)

There was only one scenario which worked and that was using the Windows Driver on the Dell system. When I used the driver provided from Windows (Quadro FX 1400 (Microsoft Corporation – WDDM) the issue was resolved as you can see in the "good link" below, but it doesn’t help resolve the issue due to the limitations of the older and less featured driver (no nVidia control panel). Also this was not a solution for the HP system as windows could not provide a suitable driver.

I have attached video links to better explain my problem. The bad link shows the issue at hand and the good link shows the working scenerio (the goal).

This was never an issue in Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit using any of the available drivers from nVidia.

I have tried turning off every option in the nVidia control panels without any success.

I have two requests from users who might take the time in posting a response, is there a solution? and second users who run Vista x64, so you have the same black flicker on window resize?

Thanks

Steven

Netflix Film Contest finalist need votes, pls help!

VFXtalk community, need your help. I worked on a short in a Netflix contest, “Paul Sussman’s Eleven-step Guide to Self Actualization”. The winner gets funding for a feature.

Click below, watch the three-minute trailer and vote! The five films with the highest number of stars will go onto the final round. Then it’s basically up to the judges. 5 stars would be outstanding but any vote would help us out. You don’t need an account to vote and it’s very simple.

Also, would be cool to hear some feedback on what the general public thinks of our trailer.

Thanks for your support!

Knob flags in Python

I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure this one out (enough to the point where I finally registered to ask).

How can I set the INVISIBLE or -STARTLINE flags for a knob in .py script? I’m looking for functionality similar to what the write node does where you can select a file type and any relevant compression knobs dynamically turn visible. If there’s a better way to achieve this, I’m open to suggestions!

Common sense says to try the setFlag member but it seems to only want to take ints.

Nuke tracker

Hi,
I would like to ask about how are you using the tracker, and how good/precise is it comparing to shake. Our company is currently switching from shake to nuke, and we have problems (after reading the manual, mailing lists etc.): sometimes it does the work fine, but in a lot of cases, there is a slight jitter, like if it couldn’t really grab the pattern well in sub-frame region. Even when it looks easy, for example tracking only a very slight camera shake of a near lockoff camera, is jumping when checking with stabilize. Which parameter do you usually adjust, when tracking (in the settings: epsilon, warp type, iterations etc) ? Is there a not so obvious thing that should be taken care of?
Any help appreciated,

Thanks,
Gabor
