Too late to Scale a Rig?

Some of you know I’ve been working on a live action film. Well, if you’re one of those who followed my foolish tracking thread that finally got resolved, check this one out.

My previous 3 shots were fine with the alien compared in size with the footage. However, with this new shot, the alien is very small compared to the footage. Now, being the terrible rigger that I am, I can’t scale it up because it will explode.

Is there a way to renode this thing or possibly scale it up somehow without having to rerig the alien? Any more help towards this last shot so I can get paid would be great as I really don’t want to rerig this alien this weekend.

Gratiam habeo. Salvete! :niceone:

To Roto or not Roto..

Hi all, well first of all, this is not a technical question.I need some advice from vets and noobs alike. Here is the thing.I in a middle of a crossroad right know and not sure what to do. I’m a self thought FX artist + Compositor.

I had and okay job right now. Its my first job and i’ve gone quite far since i graduated from animation school. I learn bits and pieces here and there ranging from MEL scripts to understanding compositing nodes. I worked on Maya, Combustion, AE and even Blender!

Recently Rhythm+Hues set foot on our tiny little country, so i kinda like gave it a try and applied for a compositor job. They offered me a training "apprentice pogram" in Roto. They wanted to get roto artists. I asked about things like compositing and effects. They said i can get into the company as a roto artist and work my way up.They told me that this apprentice pogram won;t gurantee a job with Rhythm. They have to evaluate my pogress and performance. I’m not the greatest artist out there but i do believe i will be able work up to it.

So i felt stuck. Both prospect seems ok. Just that one is "Famous" and the other is more obscure. I;m not the rockstar fame and fortune guy. I just wanna learn and try new things. Basically i really don;t know how i should move on. On my current job, i do have alot of areas to improve and i think i have to room to grow.We are doing low end stuffs. TV cartoons.Budget is tight,we find ways to make things look good enough. Not to fancy stuffs. My mates here are good. we basically have the same goals, we want to do our best.

Rhythm is a different path. I guess they are more organised and structured. Before i graudate from Uni. I did quite some research into the VFX industry. Seems like alot compositors start from jobs like Roto and wire removing etc. Perhaps i gotta go through this before stepping into more elaborate job like an FX artist or Compositor? to learn from the most basic process. This could be my break to get into bigger jobs as chances like this don;t come often especially here in Malaysia . Roto is a very daunting task isn;t it? 4k images 2k images. . hi-res footages. what if i sink in a good 2 years in roto and gain nothing out of it?its scary, i don;t know about you guys out here. I felt that roto is actually very monotonous and not that enjoyable. Some of my mates told be that match moving is even more interesting than roto, i’m not sure. They felt that i can do more than just roto, they think its a waste for me not to get something even better but instead starting from really low.

What do you guys think?

I hope you all can give me some inputs before i decide to do the leap of faith.Perhaps some of you can share some experiences dealing with situations like this

Cheers

what’s wrong with my nuke render?

i just follow the tutorials of the Compositing Basics.i dont know why?
someboy help me ?think !!

The Disco Files

discofilescover21

Tastemaker and selector du jour, Mike Simonetti of Italians Do It Better  just did a mini-write up on what he’s calling the “best book on the early days of disco I’ve ever read”. They’ve got copies of it in the IDIB store if you’re interested in immersing yourself in some authentic disco history.

“hello. we are proud to announce that as of today we have copies of THE DISCO FILES in our store. This is by far the best book on the early days of disco i have ever read. It was written by Vince Aletti, who was the first person to cover the NYC disco scene. This is his memoir, and it contains stories, charts & photos. The charts are from clubs all over the world from regional djs of the day. At 484 pages long, this is no joke! Its a must for anyone who is a fan of Italians or dance music in general. A great book to learn from. Seriously, i’ve been waiting for this for years! Thank our friends at djhistory.com for this one…It is imported from the UK so it is slightly more expensive but it is worth every penny. Plus you are supporting a micro indie label with a huge undertaking which is this book.”

Motionographer Jobs 2.0

Last week, the Motionographer Jobs database went kaput, and we lost all of the job listings. After pulling out my hair, I decided this was as good a time as any to try out a new system. It’s still in beta, but it’s a big improvement over the old system, I think.

My apologies to everyone for the downtime. Hopefully, the new job board will be a happy, stable framework upon which we can build. If you hit any bugs along the way, please use the Contact page to let me know.

Oh, and for the coders out there, the new system is based on the JobberBase script, which is pretty damn delicious.
