Star Trek: The Next Lens Flare Fiasco!

Ok, so I really loved the new Star Trek, the actors were perfect choices, the story was great, the characters spot on..and Nimoy….damn. But seriously is it necessary to have that much excessive rampant lens flares??? I could barely watch the movie I was so distracted by light flaring thru each and every frame of this overly posted film. If you were to shoot this film practically there would be 5 lights pointed directly at the lens at all times…..completely uncalled for….it looked like a bad student demo with high production value. And I’m sorry, Miniature ships comped properly BLOWS AWAY cg ships any day!

Great movie…SLOPPY DI.

Here’s hoping they will release a lens flare free version for the Blu-Ray….probably not tho…so I won’t be buying this one.

CG on “bad” deinterlaced footage

Hi,
i am adding some water FX for a clip, on some footage that has been shot with a Sony Z1 camera. The bad part is that it was shot using some fake 24p kind of pulldown straight from the camera. The actual footage is 29.97, interlaced of course, but has some kind of frame blending any 2 or 3 frames wich causes some very ugly flicker effect. Maybe some of you already know the camera and this feature.
I was not able to recompose it to some decent progressive format, and from forums reading i think that is not possible, due to the propietary method Sony has to produce that pulldown.

I am asking for some advice on how to deal with the progressive source coming from the 3d program comped onto this awful flickery shot.
Tracking has been a nightmare too.
Should i try to produce a 24p water effect and then try to carry it to the 29.97 rate? should that produce a similar look?

I am just starting this tests, but would be thankful to hear your opinions on this.
I would post some images and any test in this days.
Thanks in advance.

3D camera question

hi there .
I have simple a question about 3D compositing . I have a scene in 3Dsmax and render some frames . now I wanna place a 3D plan object [of fusion] in this render . so I guess I must export my camera to fusion 3D scene and place my plane in where I want and composite this 3D render with my 3Ds max render files.
If this way is right I need to export my animated camera with a simple object [to know where I must place my plan in fusion] . but I only find camera import in fusion and whene I import my camera , camera is so larg . also whene I export my object , object have a wrong pivot from world and I cannot match object with camera .
If there is any better solution or any help to do this . I will glad to hear .

Speedgrade DI Grading Reel

Hi all,

finally i found the time to create my first grading reel, done with Speedgrade DI.
It´s a mixture of HD-Cam tape and 16&35mm film scans (mostly onelight, some bestlight) and was edited on Avid DS. I did it for the guys at iridas, who needed something to show at NAB.

So, here´s the link:

Although i only got 5 days for editing + grading, i think it´s not bad at all…

Cheers,
André

The one thing I hate about ABC News Breakfast. (Plus, all the stuff I like about it).

> Quicktime H.264
(35.3mb)
> iPod Compatible
(18mb)
> Watch in Flash
(9.5mb progressive)

ABC News Breakfast has been on air for about six months now, and the more I watch it, the more I find myself enjoying it.

It’s very much ‘radio on the television’, with rolling news, interviews, weather and quite literally radio on the television when they cross to interviews around the country being conducted on various ABC radio stations.

Available on the digital only ABC2, or streamed live online, its a fresh change from the infotainment formats adopted by its rivals. It presents itself as an honest and often frank outlet for news, with the daily look at the front pages of the papers often devolving into an interesting analysis of the media.

The programmes Twitter page; @breakfastnews has become essential tracking during the broadcast, with insight from the shows producer about whats coming up, whose running late, and what’s going on behind the scenes, it’s easily one of the first actually useful applications of Twitter I’ve seen a TV show use.

But now, back to the title of this post.. The one thing I hate about ABC News Breakfast is the entire branding of the programme, and its the one tip of my hat I’ll give to rival Sunrise. “ABC News Breakfast” is not only a clunky name, but the on-air design, sets and graphics don’t do the show any justice.

The whole thing needs a refresh, it could really look a lot better, because if there’s one thing we all know, people judge you on how you look, especially when your taking up 40 inches of space on my living room wall.
