Nuke 5.1v3 crashing more with OS X 10.5.7

Hello, I had a pretty stable setup going, it was OS X 10.5.6 running Nuke 5.1v3, then I was screwing around with some OS X internals and totally corrupted my OS X to a point where i couldn’t repair it and I had to restore OS X from 10.5.1 Install Disk. I made a backup for the corrupted drive and installed most apps from scratch, but some I just copied over from the copied drive. Nuke 5.1v3 being one of the apps I just copied over and it started, so I didn’t think to install from scratch. Also, my computer automatically updated to OS X 10.5.7, so I can’t go back to 10.5.6.

Anyway, I get crashes all the time, now. I have re-installed Nuke a few times, but still it crashes a lot. Here is where it crashes.

when I am viewing the nodes and I am zooming in and out, back and forth, if I zoom too fast into the nodes or if I zoom and it doesn’t like the way I zoomed, it crashes. It only crashes on viewing the Nodes, though, I can zoom in and out of the viewer windows fine, but if I zoom too fast on the nodes, CRASH!! Happens every 10 minutes of so no.. Getting really frustrating.

Is it a OS X 10.5.7 thing? Are there some Nuke preferences or internals that I can find and delete manually that maybe aren’t uninstalling?

Would love to go back to the stable setup I had.

Thanks.

VFX vs SFX

Hi
I was looking at the basic difference between these two streams of work and searched the forum for a clear distinction. Not too clear yet on the dividing line between these two. Could some one clarify what would be the characterstics of each of these disciplines?

Also, what basic softwares does one need to be aware of / proficient in to be termed as either "VFX artist" of "SFX artist".

Going Nitro

dpv

Last week, you may have noticed some downtime here at Motionographer. I’m glad to say that those times are behind us, and we are now running on Media Temple’s drool-worthy Nitro server.

Yes, I’m giddy. Giddy like a schoolgirl.

So what happened?

Ever since we killed Tween and launched Motionographer back in early 2006, our traffic has been steadily climbing. Last week, we hit 75,000 pageviews in a single day. That’s pretty incredible.

Unfortunately, it pushed our server to its limits. In addition to running waaaaay too many WordPress plugins (I lost count after 20), I’d made some earlier customizations to the server’s configuration that finally caught up with us.

(mt) to the rescue

Given this scenario, most hosts would simply shrug their shoulders and say, “Hey, it’s your problem. Deal with it.” But once again, Media Temple swooped in to save the day. Over the phone and via email, they worked through every detail with me to make sure everything was running smoothly.

And they’re still on the case, monitoring the server, watching for rogue scripts to rear their ugly heads and keeping in touch with me at every turn. My sincerest props to Ryan Afdahl and his crew for their help. They’ve been amazing.
