Marc-Antoine Locatelli “Nuance”

French director Marc-Antoine Locatelli’s “Nuance” is an engrossing performance-based project worth checking out. Backed by track “Ants” (EdIT), dancer Lucas Boirat interacts with a mercurial light-based form that seems to be both a source of power and opposition. Although the project surely involved a fair bit of choreography, it feels playful and improvised. That’s a harder feat than it might appear.

OK GO, Pilobolus, Trish Sie: All Is Not Lost

It was only a matter of time until OK GO got into the Chrome experiment game. They’ve partnered up with dance company Pilobolus, longtime collaborator Trish Sie, and Google Japan to create All Is Not Lost – a music video and love letter to Japan that allows you to send messages using either roman characters or katakana.

The HTML5 version is a bit processor intensive (took a couple false starts on my machine), but worthwhile for the window movement and typographic play. The regular music video still features their trademark clever visuals. Making of here.

EVERYBODY SAY ‘YEAH YEAH!’

Fela_Pic_01

Not your average broadway show, Fela is the latest musical -thats right, I said “musical”- that’s got us hyped. Telling the story of Fela Kuti, the Nigerian musician, activist, and afrobeat pioneer, the show is like a 5 Hour Energy Shot of booty shakin’ jams. Make the jump for the Shilo directed commercial and some behind the scene footage of the shoot.
