Alan Poon Animates the Struggle Between Man and Nature

Take a few minutes out to be sucked in by Director Alan Poon’s music video for “In Our Talons” by the Bowerbirds. This beautiful track is complemented by a series of simply crafted and engaging stop-motion vignettes. They each follow the destruction of the lives of animals as man does so to their habitat. If you’re unfamiliar with Alan’s work, take a few minutes to check out some of his films. Many of them posses a similar charm in their simplicity.

Jay-Z – Brooklyn Go Hard

L’artista americano Evan Roth, fondatore insieme a James Powderly del Graffiti Research Lab, che ha conseguito il master in analisi dei graffiti e illustrazione tipografica presso la Parsons The New School for Design, ha realizzato il nuovo video di Jay-Z, “Brooklyn Go Hard”.

Usando solo i caratteri tipografici della parola Brooklyn vengono visualizzati i volti dello stesso Jay-Z e dello scomparso The Notorious B.I.G..

A quanto pare si può andare sul sito di Evan Roth e rimaneggiare il video.

Bent Image Lab and Santo: Coke “Hidden Formula”

crabs

Bent Image Lab and agency Santo prove what fun can ensue when concept and visuals move in lock step with “Hidden Formula” for Coke.

The Powers of Ten zoom is always an entertaining visual trope, but Bent Image Lab directors David Daniels and Ray DiCarlo raised the bar with some excellent character animation and a seamless mix of stop-action and CG. Our only complaint was that it ended too soon.

Cut&Paste: Call for Competitors

Given enough time, everyone can achieve some level of greatness. But what if the clock is running and you’re neck-and-neck with a pack of hungry designers like yourself?

There’s only one way to find out. Cut&Paste has launched its call for competitors, inviting you to participate in what promises to be a fantastic time. If you’re not familiar with Cut&Paste, it’s a live design tournament in 16 cities around the world, culminating in a Global Championship bout in NYC. It’s a blast to watch, but it’s even more fun to participate as a contestant.

This year, Cut&Paste is adding 3D and Motion Design to their existing 2D tournament. I helped create the specs for the Motion Design tournament, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. Whether you’re a contestant or a spectator, I’ll see you at the NYC events.

Wallace and Gromit get idents’d for BBC One.

Wallace and Gromit are the stars of the BBC’s festive look this year, with the claymation duo featuring in their very own ident.

Sticking to the ‘circle’ theme, the Aardman creations are a slightly different take on the usual Christmas branding for BBC One which has previously featured ice skating penguins, and giant balls of snow.

And what would December be without some Christmas specials, including among other things the return of Gavin & Stacey, featured in the two trailers after the jump.
