Newbie IT to vfx.

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie in this helpful forum.
I am 22 and have an IT support background. I have always been amazed by the vfx in movies and video games. (I like all those fantasy landscapes, like in Pirates of caribbean, Lord of the Rings,…)
I would like to change of field and work in the vfx one.

I am a "very very bad drawer", and I do not know anything concerning lights, shadows,… but am hard-worker if I know where to go.

Right now I have been learning photoshop for a few days with DVD training that I borrowed (I don’t if it is the best thing to do).
And then I am thinking to learn after effects (still with dvd training).

I read several posts and threads, especially Faridzareh’s one (give me hope), but am very confused with all those terms that see everywhere(roto, TD, cg,…). And then all those programs: Nuke, Combustion, boujou, houdini,….

Should I keep going with photoshop and then after effects or should I start with in a different manner?

Congrats and best of luck to all of you!

RED Scarlet… if….

I am trying to keep away from all the RED Crack but i am still somewhat curious about some things regarding the upcoming Scarlet model.

Now if one would assume that RED Scarlet would keep its current price point for the base model at around $3750. What kind of money should one be prepared to spend additionally to get a camera ready for a simple solo project? (simple recording, with no audio and no artificial light sources)

I mean for stuff stuff like a LCD, extra storage, batteries, chargers etc, etc?

The vfx + IRL result

Hey guys.

I saw a funny thread a long time ago on CGtalk about extremely funny moments in the lives of CG artists. Seeing as we’re a diverse group of people, I think it would be in the interest of great laughs to share some of the funniest moments you’ve had in the industry, or outside of it. Ideas are, funny exchanges with relatives about your chosen career, awkward fellow workers, etc.

If theres an LOL thread already going, let me know. Ive never seen one.

ALEXANDER WANG SHOOTS THE PUMP.

The economic pallor that hung like a pitch black bum out over last September seems to have passed and fashion is thin white dukin it all over town. Alexander Wang rented out a gas station for 1,000 people and had Courtney Love and Santigold on hand to eat snickers and pocket 5hour Energies. Thom Browne turned his highwater business aesthetic into a spaceage sanitation uniform. And so on and so forth until the end of the week. The Great Recession must be winding down!!!!

2d tracking in a 3d space?

HI guys
I was wondering if their is a way to apply a 2d track to a 3d space
let me explain

I have a big panorama let say 8000×3000, i put it on a card and then a 3d scene, a camera, a constant and a scanline render to shoot the panorama in pal (768×576).
I set the constant to 768×576
no problem everithing is fine.

Now i have a plate with a blue screen that i need to track (nodal pan and zoom), i put a track node. The track works very well.
I put a transform node after the scanline render.
I link the tracker to the transform node

It works fine, the image follow the track but….

I have black area around the 768×576, which is normal because, i have set my constant to this value.

Is their a way to avoid this, to see around the scanline render, or to transform my 2d data
in a 3d space and put it on my camera

thx in advance

I put a merge after the scanline render that i connect to the plate.
