The Challenge

Through The Looking Glass to Underland

There is a place, like no place on earth. A land full of wonder, mystery and danger. Some say to survive it you need to be as mad as a hatter ….. Others say all you need is to gain ownership of Underlands ruling crown …..

Your best friend Alice Kingsley has disappeared during a garden party being held in the honour of her engagement to Hamish Ascot. A message has reached you via the White Rabbit that Alice has been spirited away to the magical underground world of Wonderland, or Underland as it is also known.

The White Rabbit has informed you that to assist Alice’s return to the real world you will need to follow her to Wonderland and help her to steal back the White Queens ruling crown from the Red Queen . Luckily a portal exists to the mysterious Underland through a large ornate looking glass, which leans against a wall in the dusty attic of Alice’s childhood home.

VFXTalk challenge you to create the character of Alice’s childhood friend, using the supplied footage, and take her through the looking glass in search of the White Queens ruling crown.

Submissions

All submissions are to be made right here in this thread… just hit the New Reply button once you are logged in and upload your submission, tell us a little about it and what tools you used, and juice it up with screenshots of work in progress.

Please include with your submission:

• A screenshot from the final piece (multiple screenshots are ok)
• A wip screenshot from any of the tools that you used (multiple screenshots are ok)
• The video clip for your submission encoded as Quicktime .mov (any codec) no larger than 45 Mg

Qualified applicants should have a minimum of 3 years PHOTO REAL CG feature film experience.

Candidates are required to start as soon as possible with an anticipated end date of approximately June 30, 2010.

We are currently updating our freelance files with people wanting to register their availability for television commercials and short-form projects out of our Los Angeles facility. These are not entry-level opportunities but rather a call for interest from Mid to Senior level Nuke artists currently working in the LA market and open to ongoing freelance opportunities.

Freelance engagements at Animal Logic may be anything from 2 days to 3 months in duration, sometimes involving weekend and evening work. We are keen to build our pool of talented freelance people and maintain regular contact with those interested in working with us. Animal Logic’s television commercial division has been in the post-production business for over 15 years, providing high-end visual effects for many award-winning commercials, TV series’, and other short form productions. Our work ranges from photoreal FX to fully animated spots, catering to a global market. We about to shoot our next short film and we’re looking for an enthusiastic matte painter that could help us with some of the VFX shots.. Mainly the work will involve to add “timeworn” effect to the city shots that we are going to get.. The aim is to get as photorealistic results as possible, since it’s not going to be some kind of stylized peace. Unfortunately we cannot offer any pay for this work, however we are hoping to build a good relationship so that if any commercial work would come up you would be the first one to know..
