What does this have to do with VFX. You decide. I feel like the community has not pushed forward in a while, we keep getting reoccurring threads of "Hi, I’m new but I didn’t take 15 minutes to use the search function and forgot that I have a search engine of some sort on my browser to explore the ultraweb for this answer, can you please give me an answer in the next 5 minutes before have to take more Adderall or my :censored: head will explode even though I wont respond to this thread for 4 days."
While I do see a lot of help being given in the area of scripting and plugin writing (an area of comp apps I am fairly weak in, and I appreciate the reading the solutions and the in depth discussions members have provided), and helpful solutions to "I’m stuck why isn’t this working" type questions. I am start to be annoyed by many new threads that overlap too much. I’m just not sure at what point does overlap in other subjects become annoying or just part of having a message board.
I happy to know we have the whole range or artist levels from VFX Sup, Sr, Mid, Jr Artists, Students, and Newbs, and this pool ranges the span of the globe. Each member benefits from this site in his own way.
I guess I should stop my rant here. :p Glad I got that out.
This thread is mainly concerned with the current state/need of demo reel content for compositors. If you are in the position of screening reels for a studio, what impresses the most?
I am 1 month away from finalizing my first student reel, and have a few specific questions.
I have 4 shots focusing on different areas.
1. Roto and character interaction with added CG environment.
2. Matte painting and added CG environment integrated with a plate.
3. Projection clean-plating and roto and CG environment add/replace.
4. Mostly CG shot with practical effects integrated.
Seeing as this follows close to curriculum here at Full Sail, that is the structure of my skill set within the shots.
Would this be a strong compositing setup or should I implement more obvious greenscreen/matte skills. I have a ton in my shots, I just dont have any shots that are 100% greenscreen integration. All of them are plate dependent integration shots.
Also, how important are distracting pass reveals on a reel. I just want to stick to simple linear wipes and pass names. Quick and to the point.
I’ll post some screens as examples shortly.
Thanks in advance for the responses.

Thanks.
^see that, or Google for Autodesk flare. I guess it is being announced this year. Anyone know what it is? An end product? Or a backend process like burn, wiretap etc.

I’m booked onto the Compositing course at Escape Studios so I’m in the process of looking for somewhere to live.
As I expected I have found loads of places available for rent online but I don’t really know much about the areas surrounding Escape Studios/Shepherds Bush.
I was wondering if anyone who has taken a course at Escape, or has any knowledge of the surrounding areas would be able to give any advice?
I appreciate this is quite a broad question but I’m grateful for any info/advice you can give, as I don’t really know where to start.
Thanks
Mark

Looks like a sweet term! =)
I’m a 3rd year Animation student at the University of Dundee in Scotland. I am currently writing my dissertation on animated visual effects in film and I have a question I think you guys can help me with.
What does the future hold for VFX? With recent films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in mind, it seems like it is possible to create even the most outrageous or far-fetched ideas and make them seem real on the big screen.
So from a professional VFX artist point of view, what does the future hold? what are the new challenges that we face in VFX, and where do you see the VFX industry in 10 years from now?
Any help, ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
