Back in august of last year, I posted this: http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/two-joi…all+socket+rig
Since then, i’ve been able to create a full set up from head to toe, but I’m STILL having problems getting the hips and shoulders to work like how I want them to.
They’re essentially ball and socket joints. I’m a compositor at heart, so doing all of this is like jumping into the deep end without my water wings. >_<
I just need some guidance in how to create a proper ball and socket rig. I heard someone quietly mention a "broken Hierarchy rig", but I can only imagine what that means.
Anyone have experience with this? If you’d like the model to mess around with and test things out with, just let me know here, and i’ll send it to you in a PM.
I essentially need the arms and legs to function with IK’s but be able to rotate around the ball joint. I’m willing to settle for a solution to that before getting tied up figuring out how to get the rotation out of the elbows like I originally wanted.
First, I thought I would animate the body of the fish swimming in place (body swaying & tail flapping), then apply that looping animation to a path. What would be the best way I could set up the fish for this kind of animation? I have tried joints and soft binding and blend shapes, but this is a new area for me so I’m not sure what is the right way to go.
Also, once I have the still fish animated can I duplicate many fish then apply them to their own separate motion paths (with flow path)??
Any help or direction anyone can give me would be great… Thanks!
I’m fairly new to linux, but have got as far as mounting a directory in the linux file system under /mnt/maya, however I’m unsure how to get maya to go looking for textures etc here rather than \\hostname\maya etc (as the files are created on a windows machine).
I could open up the maya ascii file in a text editor and do a find and replace to get the paths right for linux but am wondering if there’s an easier way.
Does anyone know if i can get maya files to use a path such as $home/maya and then define $home on each system, so that the same file can be rendered across a network on win/lin machines?
I’ve download and installed the latest version from the website (www.squidnetsoftware.com). It has plenty of features and looks pretty cool as well. And the price is awesome!!
I’ve been using Spider for a while now and it looks like it’s no longer being supported (ie. no new features lately!)
Just wanted to see if anyone has used SquidNet before I purchase a few licenses.
Any response would be appreciated !!
Thanks !
I know that Boujou can do the correction for me, but I rather just have it done in Maya if possible.
Thanks!
The subject says it all. I am a professional software designer with 15 years of work experience, 4 of them writing Python tools for automating business workflow. I am presently finishing a graduate course in CGI/Animation using Maya, and I have found it to be a LOT of fun. I am intending to specialize plug-ins or other software to automate studio workflow or otherwise make a Maya user’s life somewhat easier.
What do you all need most?
