マサラタウンに住む少年サトシは、ポケモントレーナーになる資格を得ることができる、10 歳の誕生日の朝を迎えていた。まだ見ぬポケモン、まだ見ぬ世界への憧れを胸に、オーキド研究所で仲間となるポケモンをもらうはずが、大寝坊をしてしまったサトシに残されていたのは、人間に懐こうとしない、残りのポケモンのピカチュウだった。「キミはオレが嫌い? オレはキミが好きだよ!」ぶつかり合いながらも、少しずつ友情を深めていくふたりだったが、旅立ちの日に空を飛んでいた伝説のポケモン・ホウオウを見上げ、虹色の羽根を手にサトシとピカチュウは誓ったのだった。「いつか一緒に、あいつに会いに行こうぜ!」こうして世界一のポケモンマスターになるため、旅を始めたサトシとピカチュウは、途中でトレーナーのマコトとソウジに出会い、ホウオウに関する言い伝えを聞かされる。「虹色の羽根に導かれ、ホウオウに会う者、虹の勇者とならん。」いつの間にかサトシの影に潜んでいた、謎のポケモン・マーシャドーに導かれるようにして、ホウオウが住むテンセイ山を目指すサトシたちだったが、そこに強敵が現れる。ふたりはホウオウにたどり着くことができるのか!?旅立ちの日に誓った約束を果たすため、今、ふたりが「本当のパートナー」になるまでの冒険が始まる!

Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee will put handprints-footprints in cement at Legion M ceremony

On 18 July, the eve of San Diego Comic-Con, the iconic creator and force behind Marvel Comics, Stan Lee, will put his handprints and footprints in cement in the forecourt of the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX. Presented by Legion M, ICON: Celebrating Stan Lee is the first ever handprint-footprints ceremony in TCL history to be organised and hosted by the fans.

Kevin Smith from the TV show Comic Book Men said, “Stan Lee gave us the heroes that fuelled our imagination and aspirations. Now, WE, the fans, are coming together to give this permanent monument and tribute to the man that gave us so much.”

Stan Lee, the chief creative force behind the rise of Marvel Comics, brought to life some of the world’s most famous heroes and infamous villains, including Spider-Man, The Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, The Avengers, Loki, and Dr. Doom. His stories featured heroes and villains that were more psychologically complex than had ever been seen previously, inspiring legions of fans.

According to his autobiography, Excelsior!: The Amazing Life of Stan Lee, “Lee put the human in the superhuman.”

Lee’s connection to fans immediately led him to Legion M’s unique model of being the first fan-owned entertainment company, and he has been supportive of Legion M since its launch in 2016. Legion M embodies the fan culture that Lee’s work launched, perpetuating a legacy that has impacted generations. In 2017, Lee will celebrate his 95th birthday and 70th wedding anniversary, along with the 78th anniversary of the day he first started as an assistant filling inkwells at Timely Comics – now Marvel Comics – which over a lifetime of work he helped turn into one of the biggest media brands in the world.

The intersection of creativity, technology and strategy lights up Zee Melt session

Zee Melt 2017 has made it through the first two days of its schedule pretty swiftly. Even though the conference puts its focus mostly on advertising and the different aspects of it, it had something for pretty much every vertical of the industry.

Why?

It is because in today’s time, be it a service, product or a brand, they are all interspersed with advertising in some form or the other, however, digital definitely takes the lead.

We attended a session titled ‘Strategy, Creativity & Technology’ and it turned out to be pretty interesting.

The post-lunch session of the day was initiated by Fast Future Publishing, director, Steve Wells. He started his presentation with the title, “Artificial Intelligence – What’s all the fuss about?”

He explained what are the chances of robots taking away our jobs in the next 20 years. According to the Business Insider report he projected, telemarketing, accountant and auditors, retail salespersons, technical agents are in top of the sector-chain where AI or artificial intelligence are likely to take over.


However, he was quick to add to it that technology also creates more jobs – if some sectors will be taken over by AI, there would be new sectors to manage them, hence creating new opportunities. According to statistics, around 65 per cent of the children joining primary schools now would be working on jobs which don’t even exist yet.

Further he mentioned, how future family choices might be challenging, as human augmentation, that is genetic modifications and nootropic cognitive enhances drug will help us in keeping up with the pace of work. Our daily lives might be managed by AI, from reading to appointments; it might even know more about us than our family / partners would.

Concluding his session he stated that science and advancement is reshaping every aspect of our lives and it will deeply impact the way we go about it.

The session was followed by Kantar South Asia chief strategy officer Hemant Mehta, providing insights on how the consumer behaviour is dissected for better reach. He stated that messaging and calls are still better ways of communicating as it builds trust, as long as you get them on your mobile, because it is more personalised messaging. Government messaging notifying the masses about various schemes worked more than the message-promotion attempt from the private sectors except in the health sector where private sectors were ahead.

Mehta stated that mobile is possibly the most powerful mode of communicating now as it acts as an entertainment device as well. From games to music, everyone uses mobile and reaching out to masses is much easier because of the same thing.

Concluding his statement, he said everyone must be open to new things as the dynamics are about to change for good in the coming years.


Wrapping things up for the session was an unscheduled talk by Facebook, creative strategist, Ram Cobain. Titled ‘Creativity in a strange new world’, through his session the speaker projected how creativity is used in this world of technology.

Cobain stated how we are going the visual-first way and how in this age where our average attention span is of mere eight seconds, the measures which should be taken. He described it as a three-step process.

1. Compression: He insisted on packing more in short time limits. Thus the message/s have to conveyed in the given time in a creative and crisp manner.

2. Context: Through this point he focused on the context of the advertisement and how the content should be more customised and personalised to tap in the correct audience.

3. Combination: As the title is self explanatory, it has to be a combination of both creativity and technology to reach and optimise advertisement campaigns.

He further explained that Facebook users browse the platform in three ways or rather modes – ‘on the go’, ‘lean’ and ‘lean back’ – and the content is curated and targeted at each of the segment differently given browsing patterns.

Finally, he shared some tips which people should actually follow to get through their audience which include, immersive content, redefining storytelling, creating social experiences in real time and doing work that feels good.

Marvel-ous experiences planned for fans at Disney’s D23 Expo 2017

Marvel will make its way to D23 Expo from 14 to 16 July, 2017, with presentations and an epic pavilion, celebrating the upcoming film titles from Marvel Studios and all-new console and mobile games coming from Marvel Games. On Friday, 14 July, Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada will take the stage in the D23 Expo Arena for Cup o’ Joe, a no-holds-barred panel on everything Marvel. Later that day, Marvel Animation will hold a surprise-filled panel of sneak peeks, special guests, exclusive footage, and big announcements about the future of Marvel Animation. Fans will get an up-close look at the costumes and props from Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther, as well as photo opportunities with exclusive set pieces from the film. Throughout the weekend, Marvel Studios will host multiple give-aways and events, and even give fans a chance to meet with Marvel Studios’ filmmakers, development team, and talent. Exclusive artwork will be given away daily, along with other surprises. Details on talent appearances and special signings will be made available on the D23 Expo app. For the first time at D23 Expo, guests will be able to get their hands on the hottest new console and mobile games featuring favourite Marvel Super Heroes, playing as the world-famous Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and more. ‘Baahubali 2’ headed for record-breaking business at Chinese market in July

S S Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion gained staggering numbers at the global box office since its release on 28 April, 2017, and there is a new story every week of it breaking records, creating new ones and then breaking those too.

The VFX-heavy sequel‘s Hindi dubbed version has become the first movie to cross the Rs 500-crore mark (in India). At the worldwide box office, it is about to cross the Rs 1,600 crore mark making it one step closer to the Rs 2,000 crore club.

After creating history in the Indian cinema, the Prabhas-starrer is gearing for a grand release in China towards the end July this year, DNA reported. Baahubali 2 has already been released in several countries overseas and has become the highest earning Indian film there. Now, it is time for this Indian epic to enthral the Chinese audience.

Baahubali: The Beginning was released in 6,000 screens in China and the makers are aiming for a larger release of the sequel. It’s been reported that the filmmakers have chosen to dub the film in Mandarin instead of sub-titling it for the Chinese audience. The film will have a new international version as well, which is being edited by the same Hollywood editor who previously worked on Baahubali: The Beginning, Vincent Tabaillon (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk).

Arka Media Works business development head Kishore Kedari said, “It will be the next Indian film after Dangal to release in China, and we are excited about its possibilities. Dangal has done record business in China and its exemplary response has upped the quotient for Indian films.”

Amir Khan’s Dangal has already created waves at the Chinese box-office and has become the first Indian film to enter the Rs 1000-crore mark in China. As per trade experts, Baahubali 2 is very likely to create history in China too.

MIP China paves way for increased sino-international TV content

The first-ever MIP China Hangzhou International Content Summit ended on a high, with some 480 participants and an enthusiastic response from visiting international delegates and locals alike.

The inaugural MIP China event ran from 23 to 25 May in the Hyatt Regency Hangzhou, and featured the Partnership Forum, an unprecedented matchmaking event focused on Sino-international content development. Some 80 companies from around the world attended, including major names such as Sony, Warner, Viacom, All3Media, and Fuji Creative.

“MIP China has broken a lot of the myths about the Chinese market. We discovered a lot of opportunity for Indian drama, scripts, and formats in China, and were delighted to be part of this new event. For sure we will be getting business from being here,” noted Kalyana Subramanian of India’s Studio 56/Broadvision.

Many major national and regional Chinese broadcasters also took part, including CCTV/CITVC and Beijing TV, along with online giants Tencent and Alibaba Media Entertainment Group. There were also about 40 local journalists in attendance.

“This is the most professionally run media event I have attended in China. Great job Reed MIDEM,” said Little Airplane Production president Josh Selig.

The event featured a two-day training conference for local executives wishing to take their content to the international marketplace, and a series of keynote speeches from leading industry players.

“The Chinese market is growing very fast, and our collaboration with Thunder Studio (formed at MIP China Hangzhou) will give us a great opportunity to enter this market. I think MIP China was held at the right moment, as I know it is time for the Chinese Dream,” enthused France’s Millimages group commercial director Grace Lee.

MIP China director Ted Baracos concluded, “It was gratifying to have so many delegates say how much they appreciated the format of MIP China and its good level of organisation. Relationship-building is key to doing business between Chinese and overseas companies. From this perspective alone, MIP China brought TV professionals from 16 countries together with Chinese executives for an unprecedented two-and-a-half days of pre-scheduled matched and informal meetings.”

Reed MIDEM, organiser of MIP China Hangzhou, is already making plans for a follow-up event in 2018.

2K announced that Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, Kyrie Irving, will be the cover athlete of NBA 2K18, the next iteration of the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series of the past 16 years*, which will be available on 19 September, 2017. The selection of Irving marks his first appearance on the cover of NBA 2K and comes at a pinnacle point in his career after consecutive dominant years with the Cavaliers and a repeat appearance at the NBA Finals this season, which has appropriately earned him the nickname, “Ankletaker.”

Working to the hauntingly beautiful voiceover of  poet/performer Sh’maya, Sarah Beth Hulver and Tyler Morgan challenged themselves to create “Cocoon.” Both stretched out of their comfort zones for an intense collaboration that spanned 1.5 years of on-again, off-again work.
