Studio lighting
Posted in: Beginners TalkI’m trying to improve my rendering skills in terms of product renders with studio lighting.
Can anyone help with a clean, bright white scene with soft shadows, fading reflections and good render setting using mental ray in 3d max?
I have attached an image of something similar to what I am aiming to achieve. i know there’s a lot of info on the web but a lot has to do with interior lighting etc. or a lot of extra settings and effects that I don’t think I need, such as ambient occlusion. I just want a fairly quick and precise way of achieving a crisp render. I’d like the render to be able to blend into a white page so it needs to fade out to white. Also I’m confused when it comes to Exposure control. Do I need to use this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Just wondering if anyone can help me with making a realistic anodised aluminium material in mental ray (3ds max). I’ve tried adapting a car paint material but it goes really speckled. Thanks!
lw10 linear workflow and exrTrader
Posted in: LightwaveI am a lightwave/nuke user and when I render exr’s out of lightwave they appear to still be in sRGB despite the linear colorspace settings in layout. I know this because my exr’s appear to be washed out and lifted until I switch my colorspace in nuke to sRGB, then they look fine. They should look correct in a linear colorspace. Anyone know if there’s a 2.2 gamma adjustment that LW applies to its renders before they get written?
00:22 – 00:27 – Am I right to think that this was just 2 motion control shots, some roto and some extra camera movement added back in?
00:39 – 00:40 – Am I right to think that this was just 2 shots with the same lighting and the one with Eminem was just animated/faded out like that?
01:17 – 01:25 – I can see where the cut happens, but HOW did they do that? Did they just do takes with the exact same staging and cut them?
How were those 3 shots done. I got no response in the pad.
BIG THANKS!

Valley wetland WIP
Posted in: matte painting I found this image on matte painting.org and thought i would have a go myself
http://mattepainting.org/vb/showthre…highlight=yona
What i would like to do is try and recreate the wetland look myself paying attention to reflections in the water.
The image below is my work so far and I would love to get some feedback on this. Im using this exercise to practise more of the fundamental disciplines of matte painting. I dont want to create a huge sci fi scene I just want something that would look photo real. at this point i realise apart from the glaring disparity in colour in the water between planes the embankments are really sharp. these are easy fixes

Posted in: 1Kronos / Twixtor Help !!!!
Posted in: Beginners TalkI need some help with Kronos / Twixtor with AfterEffects. Considering a video in the link below that was shot from a Nokia N8 at 720p 25 FPS, how can one remove distortions from shots taken from such cameras ?
As it can be seen the application of twix to this video was totally messed up.

Will a 60 FPS footage help to eliminate such artefacts ? Or are there any other settings i am missin’ ?
Also do these plugins work with fast moving objects in a footage ?
[P.S – I am new to using twix / kronos. This was my 1st comp with twix.]
