Sr. Flame Artist – New York

A New York based studio is currently looking for a Sr. Flame Artist.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Able to provide visually creative solutions to directors and VFX Supervisor
• Able to supervise shoots where appropriate
• Able to lead teams of compositors and animators (in conjunction with CG Supervisor)
• Works with directors, VFX Supervisors, Editors and CG Supervisors to facilitate production of elements in preparation for compositing

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

• Strong creative and design skills
• Ability to work directly with directors, clients, VFX Supervisors and animators to solve complex compositing issues
• Problem-solving and strong organizational skills
• Fluent knowledge of Flame operations (UNIX commands)
• Solid working knowledge of Flame (and Nuke is a plus)
• Must be able to learn new technology as it relates compositing and CG
• Minimum of 5 years experience in related work
• Overtime may be necessary to meet deadlines

Cropped sensor & Focal Length

So I’ve read a couple of threads on cropped sensors, but I’m still a bit confused.
Does matchmoving software need the original lens Focal Length or the resulting Focal Length after the crop is multiplied?

For example, I’m using a canon 60D (1.6 crop) with a 50mm prime lens. Do I tell PfTrack I’m using a 50mm lens or an 80mm lens?
(50mm X 1.6 crop = 80mm)

Pftrack approximates the lens at 35mm, which is not even close. Syntheyes approximates the lens at 50mm, which sounds right, but I’m not sure if it’s correct.

I’m getting a solid track regardless, but I’m just wondering…
