Vfx course and future opportunities & Growth of the Industry…….
Hello friends,

This is my first thread on VfxTalk, happy to join this website. I am planning for higher studies in Vfx in Vancouver, most probably at Vanarts. there only 4 questions they are as follows :

1) Vanarts is a good institute as I have read on various blogs even the vfx course also upto my needs and Faculty is also experienced… but there are some negative remarks on various blogs too…. so now m bit confused, which Institute is best in Vancouver for vfx course?
Please give me your valuable advice as I am going to invest my entire earnings for this course and my father is also investing his earning in the same. So please guide me through this….

2) After completing the course from reputed institute in Vancouver, can I get job over there. (I can understand that its based on my efforts and as well as demo reel) but will there b plenty of opportunities in this field?
(As change in Canadian Visa policy I will be getting One Year Work Permit in Canada After completing the course successfully. So how much I can earn in a year’s period?)

3) Current Salary for entry level / junior vfx artist, even for the post of Junior Editor cum compositor.

4) Growth of vfx industry in Asia (BOLLYWOOD)

here is my bg:
1) Art Director cum Concept Visualizer
(Designed and actually produced various
set)
2) Editor (participated in American Cinema
Editors Student Competition)
3) Director
4) command over After Effects, FCP,
Premiere, Mocha, Maya, Photoshop,
Illustrator, and some Mechanical Stuff as
its part of Mechanical Movement in sets.
knowledge of JAVA for After Effects
Expressions.
4) Last but not the least A REALLY VERY
HARDWORKING guy.

Any help, information, advice, suggestions is highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance…….
Wish u a very happy LIFE…..

removing the stretched pixels?

total noob question here. i’ve looked all over for an answer dealing with keylight and transform, but i get one or the other. nothing dealing with shooting greenscreen and then scaling it down.

i have a scene i’m shooting stopmotion for that has a spinning tower in the foreground. rather than spinning the tower while i shoot the rest of the scene i shot the tower against green screen and have keyed it out successfully with keylight, but when i try and scale it down to put in the foreground, i either get that damn "black outside" option or just stretched pixels on the sides and a black top and bottom.

what do i need to do to see my scaled down image overtop of the rest of my animation?

Thanks.

Timmeh.

Normals Node

For some reason the Normals node breaks every time I change the frame, If I alter any setting it works….then I go to another frame it breaks…if I set that setting I just changed back to what I had it fixes it…..it can’t hold the data for some reason…which means I can’t render it. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this problem?

Your Highness: A little bit of Framestore magic

Your Highness: A little bit of Framestore magic

Yourhighness_featured

Your Highness is the medieval tale of two princes, brothers Thadeous and Fabious, and their attempt to rescue the later’s future bride, Belladonna, who has been kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar. Joined by aide Courtney and warrior Isabel, the group encounter wizards, savages and strange creatures on their quest.

Framestore completed around 570 shots for the film, including a five-headed serpent, a flying mechanical bird, matte paintings, set extensions and much magic. In this interview with fxguide, Framestore co-founder and the film’s visual effects supervisor Mike McGee delves into how he collaborated closely with the Your Highness filmmakers on both a creative and technical level, and on unexpected CG solutions.

Nuke/Rush – Render fail with CameraTracker

Hey all,

Just want to see if anyone else is having this problem or if its a well known bug.

Nuke version: NukeX6.2v2
Rush version: 102.42a9d

So, here’s the problem. I’ve done a 3D camera track using Nuke X’s CameraTracker. Solved the track and created a scene from the track (generated a Point Cloud, Camera, and Scene node). I want to check my track with the point cloud by attaching a Scanline Render node to it with the camera inputted as well and my plate in the bg input. When I try to render this simple comp over our farm every single frame fails because of this error:

ERROR: No curve named ‘Min Length’

and below it says:

CameraTracker2.trackCurves: No curve named ‘Min Length’
— NUKE FAILED: EXITCODE=1
— NUKE FAILED

I’ve seen this error before but in the past I’ve only need the camera generated from the CameraTracker, so I bake out the Camera’s animation and delete the CameraTracker node. After doing that the render works so I haven’t fretted. But this time I need the CameraTracker in order to generate the point cloud.

Sorry for the extremely long explanation.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Is it common? Solutions?

Thanks in advance!
