Freelancing – How long to get paid?

I was wondering what people’s experiences are with regards to getting paid after freelance work? Im doing flame bits and bobs so its a week at a time max (UK). Have had it vary from a few days to over 6 weeks.
Freelancing is new to me and I’m finding it hard to budget when you dont know when the money will definitely be coming in.
is there an accepted norm for these things? My invoice software (ExpressInvoice for mac which is free) defaulted to 31 days. I was told by one accountant at a post house I could certainly take it down to 14.

Would like to hear people’s experiences

keying workflow

Hi everyone,
I am actually working on a keyng shot and was wondering if after linearising the shot, a white balance could help giving better results on using any kind of keying tool in nuke..Of course I could look at the result myself, but I d like to understand if color grading a shot can be usefull or note regarding to 32bit float keying processing in Nuke..or if it s completely useless…
hope my question is clear anough.
thanx

nonlinear addmix – why?

i have to use a addmix node to get the same result like in photoshop…
but i have no idea why its not working with a merge node and premult…

i have one green background and an interlaced yellow falloff as PNG…

oglu confused…!
in fusion it would work with postmultiply by alpha…

Grow Rig System Beta

Hello,

I’d like to share a little pluggin I’ve been developing for XSI over the past year or so in between jobs. I call it The Grow Rig System, and it’s basically a simple auto rigger with a character mesh already attached. Sort of a combination of a rigging tool and a modeling tool.

Here’s a demo video:

http://www.kylevargas.net/growrig/de…_rig_demo.html

It’s a very simple tool, definitely a work in progress. I’ve certainly seen more advanced rig builders out there, but I feel the ideas my system centers around are very strong.

There are many features I have in mind to add to this system but I must admit my scripting and rigging skills are limited. Any feedback

would be a great help, but what I’m really hoping for are any riggers and scripters who would be up for working with me to improve and add to it.

Here’s where to download the files:

http://kylevargas.net/growrig/beta.html

So, if you’re interested in any capacity whatsoever, feel free to use it, test it, let me know what you think. And again, if you’re interested in working on it with me I’d love to hear from you.

Enjoy!

The Backwater Gospel

The infamous Animation Workshop hit hard this time, churning out a really impressive production, which is way ahead of what you’d expect from a student film. Granted, they had a pretty reasonably sized team, and from what you can see, all of them were apparently crazy talented. Now go and enjoy the Backwater Gospel – also make sure to check out their extensive blog with progress elements and making of snippets.
