7D DSLR Video to RGB Images

I’ve had a bit of a search here but can’t find the answer, so far.

I’m trying to get 8bit .png or .tiff image sequences out of Nuke from Canon 7D video using a simple node setup, read, colorspace, write.

But I get an overly bright output, not blown just over bright imo.

Input colorspace I’ve set to Rec709, sRGB primaries, D65 WP

Output colorspace set to sRGB.

I see no control of luma, such as ensuring I get full swing Rec709. I don’t want restricted range then expanded to fuil after, that would give me overly bright washed out look I think I see.

BT601 sources? Do you use 709?

Any advice?

Optimize 3D models: Atangeo Balancer, now for Mac and Windows

Atangeo Balancer, a popular tool to optimize and simplify 3D models,
is now available for both Mac OS X and Windows.

Its exceptional performance and a novel user interface allow finding
perfect balance between visual appearance and the number of polygons,
quickly and easily. Balancer utilizes a high quality polygon reduction
(aka mesh simplification or decimation) to preserve the visual
appearance of your model. The model features, normals, texture
coordinates, layer boundaries are all honored by Balancer.

Balancer comes now with both 32 bit and 64 bit binaries
on both Windows and Mac OS X.

Atangeo technology is also available as an SDK.

Hope you will find Balancer useful.

Weta Digital recently gave an incredible full day ‘Making of Avatar’ presentation on James Cameron’s film as part of this year’s AnimfxNZ conference in Wellington. Here’s a brief report at fxguide giving a rundown of some of the major points brought up by Weta supes and artists from the day.

From Cinema4D to — ?!

Hello.
I’ve been using cinema4D since the last few years, and actually I’m extremely happy with almost everything it has. However, as most of you know, cinema4D is very weak for particles and simulatiıns.

I’ve been in love with Softimage ICE since I saw it, and I always wanted to learn XSI just because of that platform.. BUT, do you think it would be a good swap for me (from cinema4D to Softimage) ? I mostly use 3D for motiongrapgics, but I need simulations and particles as well. Thinking particles (in cinema4D) is not enough to me.

I also would like to ask about simulations. Quite unexpectedly, when I search for any cloth tutorials for XSI, there is almost none ! That really seems weird, and makes me ask this question:
-is XSI good for cloth simulations ?
Or a secondary question
-which platform is the best for cloth ? I’m hearing a lot about maya but.. what about max ? How would you order them from the bet to the worst ? And why ?

Also one final thing. I’ve used max (way before I started using cinema4D) and I’m quite familiar with the interface, frankly, I hate it. BUT when it comes to texhnical solutions, I guess I can stand it if it can handle my needs.. So, the question about max is:
is there any way to control objects (as well as particles) in max with a programmable interface ? (like ice or xpresso in cinema4D)

Also, MOGRAPH.. I’m guessing there is no alternative for that in all those programs to create rich and easy moving elements in all those programs… I just cant imagine what I can do without it.. I will be happy if you can talk about possible solutions instead of keyframing everything manually !

Dynamism is what I need !

Question about posting user Group meeting

Hi Administrators,

My name is Wendy Woodhall and I’m co-founder of the Los Angeles Post Production Group – a free membership group for people who are interested in all aspects of post production. In a few weeks we’re going to be have Joaquin Pecheur from Imagineer Systems come and demo mocha v2 and the soon to be released mocha pro. Would it be possible to post this information on your forum? I thought this might be of interest to your members. Can you let me know if it’s okay and where to post it? Thank you for your help!!

Best,

Wendy

Red Mysterium x Color Workflow Nuke

Hello I have R3D footage shot on the RedOne Mysterium X camera.
Read in to Nuke using the default settings based on the R3D meta data.

This image appears very flat and dark?

The same R3D footage read into redcine or aftereffects looks correct (as displayed on the RedOne monitor).

These color shifts obviously make it very difficult to work in both compositing packages.
Any Ideas?

thanks warn 😮

How to: Breaking & Entering the VFX Industry

Typical entry into the visual effects field often goes something like this:

1) Go to film school.
2) Build a demo reel.
3) Shop it around.
4) Wait.

But, there are many other ways in as well – non-traditional educations, a happenstance meeting in an elevator, lying/cheating/stealing your way into that job. Some of these stories can be inspirational, hilarious and morally questionable 😉

The point is: There are many ways into this business. As a result, it’s hard to give definitive advice on what a newcomer should do to get noticed, or land a job. No two stories are quite alike, and based on the personal emails I got (on a previous story I posted), I think that hopeful applicants would benefit from some war stories of getting into the biz, and the weird twists and turns that got us through our careers.

I posted this story on a different thread, and it resulted in emails asking for more. If this thread gets some traction I’ll embarrass myself with other anecdotes.

‘The Software Simulator’
****************************
When I first started out there was much less competition, but also less opportunity. Access to the professional machines and production software (stuff we now take for granted) was virtually impossible. I got my first job working as a junior, junior, junior ‘nobody’ in a post house. The people who had access to the "3D machines" were very protective of their territory. I felt completely shut out from the world I wanted to be part of. It was like an exclusive club for which you needed to know a secret password, and I didn’t. I was so very close to it, yet stuck behind the velvet rope.

Information was hard to come by in those days, but I got an Accountant to give me the name for the local hardware/software distributer. I called him and offered to work there for a week for free, in exchange, I got one night to learn on their demo computer. One night … what was I thinking?

So, I put in my week of cleaning the warehouse and filing papers, and then came my career-changing night. How did I spend these precious hours? – Not sitting at the machine. I stayed up all night, and photocopied all of the manuals (there must have been 10-12 big books). Then, I went home and cut out all the menus, taped them up and pretended like I was actually using the software, manually. Yes, I learned how to use it without ever having used such a machine, or software.

I practiced (at home, secretly) until the day we had a imminent deadline, and the 3D guy was not able to come in. I got my break, and somehow muddled my way through.

I’d like to say that the rest is history, but it was only the first chapter of many. In fact, I’m trying something new right now, and have no idea where it will take me.

Sometimes you get noticed, and sometimes cut your own trail.

doubt reg tracked data

Hi i have just seen the digital tutors maya and nuke integration

i came across a doubt

the point clouds and the camera in my scene is very close to each other
and can we move the point clouds? can we scale it?
could any one set me up and send me the maya file.
I would really appreciate that
