After Effects blend modes in NUKE?

Hi guys,

I’m struggling to learn Nuke coming from years of After Effects background. I’m often compositing multipass 3D-renders, so I finally decided to give Nuke a try and maximize the quality of my composites.

Right now it’s really hard for me to work with the blend modes of the merge-node. They are all called different than the blend modes in AE or Photoshop.

Did anyone ever see some kind of list with the blend modes in AE and the adequate blend mode in Nuke? I know that they will not be 100% the same, cause the AE blend modes doesn’t work mathematically correct, but maybe someone can point me in a direction here?

Thanks everyone!

Particle and Fluid Simulations for 3D (stereoscopic) Commercial

We need several particle and fluid simulations created for a high end stereoscopic 3D commercial shot on the Red. We are on a tight deadline and need work completed from August 15 – August 27. All shots have already been set up in Maya with stereoscopic cameras. All elements must be photo real. Stereoscopic experience is a plus.

If you are interested in the completing one or more of the following simulations, please send an email including your reel and rate to contact@emberlab.com.

•Create floating dust and pollen for several macro shots featuring insects and grass.
•Create a bubble popping and filling a container with liquid.
•Fill a container with a carbonated liquid with bubbles generating from the surface.

TELEPHONEME by MK12

MK12 has just released another in-house project, a short film called TELEPHONEME. It brings the idea of “language working as a double-agent, carrying a hidden meaning with it for reasons yet-unknown” (there’s a PDF with more details in the cool site!).

The movie expertly combines live action with animation in the collective’s unique style, with neatly composited shapes and type, aged-film textures, and a beautiful nostalgic color palette. TELEPHONEME synthesizes a lot of MK12′s aesthetic, which will definitely keep on inspiring crowds of Motion Designers throughout the world.

MK12′s co-founder Ben Radatz kindly shared some insights about the project:

TELEPHONEME came about after we’d begun writing a short about how the alphabet was actually a “trojan horse” with coded messages and symbols, designed by a shadow group intent on keeping the rest of us down. While writing the piece we came across a Bell Labs-funded educational film called “The Alphabet Conspiracy,” which had pretty much the same content we were writing into our version. So we instead appropriated the voiceover and re-mixed it into a slightly darker version of itself. The voice is that of Frank Baxter, aka Dr. Research, a well-known figure in the educational film world. And, he tweets! We developed a typeface called “Chadwick” which we envisioned as a “root font” of sorts – a theoretically perfect and balanced font that concerned itself more with technical execution than visual aesthetics. This was the font that we used throughout the piece, and we set up a pretty rigid set of guidelines for it’s use. It’s not something that’s likely to be picked up on, but it made a good foundation for the rest of the piece. While voiceover is borrowed from the original film, the sound design was done in-house, borrowing from analog sources and mixing them into a very sight-for-see composition.

i’m a beginner amd here’s my (very basic) question in maya !!

actually i’m new at using maya 2011 so ….. i downloaded a bunch of already rendered 3d models (obj and 3ds) but what i always see is a wire frame or a mesh but where is the material (they call it texture right ??) E.G… i downloaded an obj dinosaur from a site and saw some gr8 screen shots for it on the site but imported in maya i only see it’s mesh (as if it is a skeleton) so how can i see the model’s material (which would shape the dinosaur’s flesh) ?? i know it’s a very basic (may be …stupid) quesstion but it’s beginners’ talk right ;D

thx in advance

New to Nuke

Hello,
im teaching myself Nuke by way of nearly every tutorial I can get my hand on.

I just want to know how to do something simple, and I havent seen it in any tuts…not that it doesnt exist.
In AE if I want to bring in 100 layers from a folder, I either drag the folder into the project, or I use a script called immigration, which will also let me do thi plus various functions.

In nuke, all I can find is one by one….create a read file…and browse. Seems like there is a faster way to import multiple clips of the same type….right?
Thanks in advance!
