Rotopaint to extend a UV Projection?

Hey guys, I’m pretty new to Nuke and I’ve hit a roadblock with a shot I’m working on.

I’ve included a before and after image from my plate. I’ve got a projection setup removing the tree in the foreground of my shot. I’ve also included an image of the 3d space, as well as a frame that has an example of what I’m trying to fix.

The best frame to use for the Right Wall projection didn’t extend as far back as I’d like. I want to extend it with rotopaint.

How can I rotopaint onto this still frame that I’m projecting onto 3D geometry?

Clean Plates understand

I’m not Understand Plates clean.

I need to shoot 2 times the same scene, an actor with and one without it to be clean my plate?

Would be better for green screen shoot first screen only without the actor, and then one more shot with the actor?

What is the real use of clean Plates?

Introduction

For starters we’ll use a simple shot and do the most obvious thing when you first open Syntheyes: A completely automatic track. In a matter of literally seconds you’ll have a pretty usable result, that will quickly improve by using some simple clean-up techniques. Orient the scene in 3d-space and insert 3D-objects into your scene to test if everything works, export your camera-solution and voilá – you have a decent matchmove in just a few minutes.



Solving a shaky handheld shot

Life not often makes it easy for you, and so you’ll often be confronted with things like motion-blur, camera-shake and lens-distortion. So for the more difficult shots we’ll have to bring the big guns in. Automatic tracker cleanup, manual control over each tracker-curve in the graphs-editor and fine-tune trackers can really improve your camera solution. To solve fast and shaky hand-held footage with lots of motion-blur it’s best to use supervised tracking to give you the most control over each tracker. If you’re footage was shot with a lens that has barrel-distortion then you have another problem that can make things more complicated. Tracks will have lots of errors, and 3D objects will not fit to the footage not matter what. Luckily Syntheyes has a clever way to get rid of lens-distortion. Or even to re-distort the CGI, if the director wants to work with the original footage later in compositing.



Modeling with Syntheyes

With the tracking-features and resulting 3d-points you can not only define the camera, but also re-model the scene,* just use the points to define a mesh! And if there are not enough features for you to re-create the scene, insert zero weighted trackers (ZWT) that don’t affect the camera solution but will position themselves in the correct place in your 3d environment. And if you need more organic shapes to be rebuilt, add thousands of 3d-points all at once to build your mesh. You can even texture that mesh by using camera-projection right within Syntheyes, to test if camera-mapping will work later in your 3d- or compositing-application.



Solving Tripod shots* – with 3d environment?

The common problem with tripod shots is that it is impossible to get any usable 3d information out of just a camera-pan. The solution of the camera movement might be good, still it can be hard to position it in a reasonable and exact way in 3d-space. That problem can quickly be solved with Syntheye’s lens-tools. Use any straight perspective lines in one frame of your tripod-shot to setup a coordinate system that let’s you position objects in your scene more easily – that makes life easier for the 3d-artist! You can even use that method on still images.



A moving camera – and a moving object!

Although primarily a camera-tracker, Syntheyes does a really good job at object-tracking. The last chapter of this tutorial shows you how to track camera and objects in one scene altogether, how to setup their coordinate systems and how to orient them in 3d-space. You can really do amazing things with this great software. Make sure you have some time and your favorite compositing and 3d application at hand! You’ll want to try out all these goodies immediately!

1st VFX Shot

Hey 🙂 !

I have been reading this forum for quite a while now and really appreciate all your efforts helping us first-timers out.

Awesome community I haven’t seen for a while. Plz keep on going…

To cut a long story short I’ll just explain why I started this thread.

We (five film students from Austria/Europe) are actually planning our first VFX shot. We are having experience in film, 3D (Maya / 3DSM) and AE.

To get to the next level – we would now love to get more into compositing and VFX in general.

After writing the script, making the storyboard, working through some moods/references and reading into some lecture like "Digital Compositing For Film And Video – Steve Wright", "The DV Rebel’s Guide – Stu Maschwitz" and "Matchmoving: The Invisible Art Of Camera Tracking – Tim Dobbert" we actually reached a point where we would love to get some first hand advice about what we should take care about.

First of all – we are working on a night scene where a car (with people inside) is slow-mo crashing into a tree on a lonely street through the wood.

I also attached our "storyboard" (but don’t expect to much, it’s more like a shotlist 😀 )

As you can hopefully see we have several shots – some inside the car, some outside. If possible, only the car and it’s accident should be CG.

Sooo…back to my question. Is there some kind of a procedure we could follow? Hope those question aren’t that stupid and to basic at all 😮 .

1 Should we film the empty street and later composite the CG car onto it?

2 How about the actors sitting inside? Should we use greenscreen windows and make the moving environment outside the car later? (for example storyboard nr 1 & 6)

3 Where to place the tracking marks best for the matchmove of the moving camera?

4 How many tracking marks are usually necessary?

5 What would be the easiest way to get a smooth camera movement of the driving car? (storyboard nr 1, 3 and 4)

6 Does anyone have some suggestions which plugins (especially for 3DS) we could use to simulate the crash and the car deformation best (cloth, reactor,…) ? Or is it even better to make a car rig for the deformations and animate it by hand?
How about the particles in it? Something like the Rayfire Tool or Blastcode?

7 My last question. Which compositing software would you recommend beginners to start with? Nuke, Fusion, …? I did read a lot of topics about them around here but I am still not that sure which one to choose and give a try for such a shot.

No matter what – I appreciate every advice you could give and point us in the right direction.

ogl render depth of field

everytime I enable accumulation effects / depth of field my 3d layer get transparent.
why?
sometime it works in veiwport, but wehne I try to render then it happens again. Can´t figure out what I´m doing wrong. Looks like a bug. Is there a workaround.

2D Tracker…Move feature point?

Hi all,
Anyone know if there is a way to move the center point ( or feature point in AE)?
For example, If I am tracking a cube, the track point would be in the center. I would want the point to be at the top right corner.
