Water Ripple Effect to disturb water from CGI object

Whats the best way to achieve a water ripple effect in nuke, over blown out moving water.

The camera is looking down at the talent at a 45 degree angle in some partially blown out water, and I am adding cgi behind coming out of the water, and need to disturb the water somehow so it appears more photoreal.

I want to generate a ripple or even disturbance in the water.

Heres the challenge, the water is already moving, and parts of it are blown out where I want to add the cgi, so if I do create a ripple, how can you see it over the blown out water below and even if you see through the water below, its already moving at a slow pace.

Or can I bypass the ripple and disturbance all together if I make the water appear more blown out, it may work that way?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Python Question – How to determine the last frame of a QT sequence?

Hey Guys,

Got a python question for ya. I’m trying to figure out how to determine the last frame of a quicktime that’s being created through a script (for example something like this)…

r2=nuke.nodes.Read(format="mov",file=’/path/thisFile.mov’)

It obviously defaults the frames to 1 – 1. But dragging and dropping in the file figures out the last frame, so I figure it must be a missing knob that I don’t know about.

Can anyone offer some insight how to accomplish this pretty simple task

Thanks,
Doug

Clone tool, how does it work in Toxik?

Helo, so I need to clone away tracking marks. But when I choose to clone it away with a Paint tool, then I get some problems. The problem here is that the the sequence stops on that frame where i cloned(this happends when i have it on hold). Why does it freeze? I tried many diffrent settings on Repeat Mode.

Can’t post reel

I tried two days ago to post my reel but it never showed up. I then tried in the "beginner" section because I’m still an amateur at this point but it wasn’t approved there, either. I may have double posted by accident so it seemed like I was spamming. I spent a long, long time on my reel it and need feedback. What can I do?

TO THE FUTURE!

Boy, do those Yugoslavian’s know how to commemorate their country. Smack dab in the middle of the Yugoslav modern art period -or as you art historians like to call it- the socialist modernism/aestheticism, a culture of memorials descended onto the hills. These abstract monuments expressed a forward-looking view for what’s ahead for the war-torn country. Click through to see Robert Burghardt’s amazing flicks.

Playblast= no frame updates on image place?!

So I’ve made a track in Matchmover, exported it out to maya, worked great. But the problem here now is that when i render a playblast, then i will see the camera (3d maya camera) move and ofcourse the 3d house i placed there movest along with it. But the problem here is that the tracked image sequence will stay still on fram 1 and won’t update itself. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Nuke to premiere hue shift/gamma shift.

Hey guys and gals,

Here’s the quick run down. Import r3d into nuke (viewing sRGB) and the colorspace on the r3d is set to linear. I like what I see. I write that out to 16bit TIFF (linear). I import that TIFF into nuke again to compare against the original red file and it looks identical. Perfect!

Now we composite some cool stuff in on the tiffs and re-export 8bit TIFF’s (sRGB) for the editor (he is using premiere pro CS4). Bring those 8-bit tiffs back into Nuke just for verification and everything is still perfect, but in premiere we’re getting a huge color/gamma shift. Everything has now become a very orangish/yellowish hue.

In nuke, we’re viewing everything with the sRGB LUT built into nuke. Whats going on when we bring it to another program!? This is killing us!! We need our final color done by the end of the weekend, but we’re stuck at this point. =[ colorspaces defeat me.

The images in the attached photo are LEFT: tiff in premiere RIGHT: r3d in premiere. 2nd image is r3d in nuke.
