Tracking Video Screens – AE Tutorial

In the new tutorial this week I show how you can use the Corner Pin tool in After Effects along with motion tracking and masking techniques to place a piece of video footage into a billboard in a streetscape scene. It’s a pretty versatile technique with a range of uses!

:niceone:Tracking Screens

Also, don’t forget there’s heaps of other great video and audio tutorials on the site a long with a range of interviews with filmmakers, rants from Arlo about Audio and links to great work done by Doco Makers, Animators, Directors and more!

On a side note… I just finished editing a half-hour programme for the ABC on Stop-Motion Animator, Adam Elliot (2004 Oscar winner for Harvie Krumpet) and I can say that his new Feature Film, Mary and Max, looks unbelievable!! It opened Sundance this year and has just been released in Australia. I hope it does very well because it’s a beautiful film.

Peace.

Randomly change a nodes tile_color and gl_color

Hi, sorry for the n00b question.

Is there a way to make a new Bezier gizmo that randomly assigns a different tile_color and gl_color?

I’ve been using python to make the new node, but can’t seem to hone in on the tile_color and gl_color attributes thru python. Also, don’t know know to make a random hex color in Nuke.

I’m sure there has to be a simple way to do this right?

Thankz

PFtrack Constraints

At what stage should I be applying my planar constraints? Should I apply them before the camera solve or after? Should I be apply constraints to just a few points or as many as are accurate?

This is my first time using PFtrack (I’m used to Boujou) and I’ve been applying the planar constraints to the solved points and then adjusting the solve ("Improve Solution"). This only seems to make more errors in the solve (this is also reflected in the Proj-Error and Cam-Error graphs). I’ve tried applying the constraints at different stages, varying the number of points, etc. but to no avail.

About the footage I’m working with: It was shot against a green screen with track marks all around (on two flat walls and the floor). The issue with the footage is that the camera is hand-held and walks around a character sitting the foreground. There are always at least a half-dozen visible track points but PFtrack gets very confused by all of this. I’ve merging tracks that get occluded and half feature tracks on all the track points. Also I’m solving the shot in multiple pieces.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Mac keys?

Hi I’ve just installed shake on my macbook and I found that upon playing my flipbook, I can’t make the speed faster or slower..in fact it plays really slow. I thought that the + and – next to the numeric keypad were used to control the speed but the macbook doesn’t have those keys. Even when I plugged in an external keyboad and tried pressing those keys it doesn’t work. Anyone can help? Thanks.

Rendering Fluids

Hi, im new to fluids and am having problems when rendering them; either they come out really blurry and undefined, or they come out as a solid shape comprising of cubes (check out the attached images). Could anybody please point me in the direction of a good tutorial for this, or could maybe shed some light on the problem?

cheers
