Nuke Zblur vis-a-vis vray

hi

ultra noob query.

i renderout the zbufferpass via vray in 3dsmax (with default settings)
i apply a Zblur node in nuke.
i keep fiddling the sliders untill i see some seperation (in the focal place mode) and at times i simply cant find it!

now here is my question:
how do i read the onscreen values and get the sliders right @ one go (without have to fiddling around the sliders)?

i hope i was clear in explaining.

also if there is a comprehensive read somewhere out there, i would appreciate a lead!

thanks

Keylight Colour Correction

Hello I am fairly experienced with composting, but I am new to this community.

I wanted some help with a project I am working on at the moment.

A few days ago the director at my company shot a bunch of videos on a green screen. Unfortunately he did not white balance correctly and I have been left to fix this in after effects.

What I currently have is a green screen’d video with an awful orange/red tint over it, and a lot of shadow/gamma etc.

I have applied the following to the video to attempt get it to a fit state;

Pre Comp 1: Keylight 1.0 and Curves to lower the Reds

Pre Comp 2: Duplicated the layer with screen mode applied on top and an adjustment layer with contrast and hue/saturation filters on top.

Pre Comp 3: Curves again.

I am currently working with After Effects CS5, with only the built in colour correction tools, meaning no Color Finesse or Magic Bullet

If anyone can think of anything that could improve the quality of this video then please let me know.

Motion Blur on 3D-Render. Best way?

Hi there 🙂

I’m looking for the best way to achieve MotionBlur on a 3D-matchmoving-render. It’s rendered in cinema 4D without motion pass. i want to simply "fake" it a bit.
It’s in a shot that gets pretty shaky at some time.

Oflow, Timeblur… are there any other possibilities?

I’d need a fast way (low rendertime on a Macbook pro) with good results. Is there something like that? 🙂

best regards!
Marc 🙂

making the jump from AE to NUKE

hey guys

As the title says I have started to use NUKE and I would like your help with some work im doing. I can easily do this in AE but I want to start learning the standard

Below is an image of what i’m aiming for. I’ve figured out how to roto in NUKE but not how to achieve the look im after in the image. I want to keep the guy in colour and the background b/w with maybe some motion graphics inbetween. In AE i would have rotoed out the guy, duplicated the layer and desaturated the layer underneath with the shopping centre. What I want to know is how do i go about achieving the look in NUKE. i know its probably noob stuff but this is literally the first thing ive tried in NUKE.
any help would be appreciated guys

Modern Warfare 2 Style Text Effect

Hi!

Basically, I am putting together an action movie that based around secret intelligence and Russian terrorists so I thought it would be pretty neat if I could make the location titles that introduce the location work in a similar way to some of the Modern Warfare 2 titles. Essentially, the text starts of in cyrillic then the letters change to English characters to show what they mean. It doen’t matter how they transition and I don’t really mind if it is just a random bunch of Cyrillic characters, although it would be nice to use the proper text I have had translated.

Anyone got any ideas on how this could be achieved? I realise I will have to use a text offset but I am unsure how to use it effectively enough. If someone could give me a step-by-step guide it would be highly appreciated. Here is a clip of the kind of text I am talking about:

Matchmoving and Compositing

Ok, I asked a question a while back on the forum on how to mix CG with live action footage. Since then, I’ve learned a lot, however still a bit fuzzy on a couple of things. Okay, say I’ve got a shot of the floor, and I want to get an animated monster in there. Say the cameras moving slightly, roatating round the monster. I know what is required to get it in there but the main thing I’m clueless about. Matchmoving. Would I need to put markers on the floor? I’m using Matchmover 2012. Or could I just put it in there, then motion track the monster.

Thanks.;)

Visual Effect Degree?

Hi, I’m from the UK. I do VFX as a hobby. Was just wondering if you need a degree or study Visual Effects at a school to get a job in the industry.

Combining Pyro and FLIP in Houdini

Hi,

I am student at Bournemouth University in MSc computer Animation and Visual Effects. For my Master Dissertation I am making a tool in Houdini that allows to develop a effect on transition of matter means gas to liquid.

I am planning to demonstrate it by showing steam evaporating from a water container, touching on a freezing window glass(its snowing outside) and condensing to water(droplets of water sliding on the window glass and water accumulating at the bottom of the window frame) as it touches the window glass.

For this I am planning to combine PyroFX solver and Flip solver of Houdini to attain this goal.

Starting point for this project should be getting the details how PYRO and FLIP work in Houdini. Is it possible to combine the two….? Would I need extensive use of HDK and VEX….? For conversion of gas to liquid I am planning to use principals of thermodynamics.

I am very new to Houdini so I would like to get your views and suggestion for this topic. Any Help with materials and links for information or sharing your knowledge is appreciable since I have limited time.

fusion problem…
