dramatic camera – a houdini tool

This is a concept that I have been working on for a few weeks now in response to a thread on the board that sparked some very technical discussion. The concept is fairly straight forward. Modify the actual speed of a camera along a path based on the height of the camera above the 0 plane. The goal is to adjust the apparent velocity of the camera to become constant.

The way I wrote it, it allows for fine tweaking and inverting the effect so you can make it go faster when it is low to the ground. Here is an example I output. The first clip is the default linear progression, the second is with the speed adjusted to remove the apparent velocity shift. The effect is very subtle in this example, but I should be able to put together a better example once I get the tutorial writing done. C&C welcome, though i know there isn’t much here to look at just yet.

Demo Reel Shots

Hey Everyone,

I thought I would post my wips for a couple shots that I hope to be on my demo reel that should be finished at the end of June.

My first shot is a zombie running after someone. Right now I have just an animatic for the placement of the zombie. I will be getting motion capture data for the run at the end of next week. While I wait for the mo-cap, I’ve been working on some lighting as well as the skin shader for the zombie. There will also be some interaction with a cone that was in the live plate. Once I have the motion capture I am planning on putting just a cube or something in the zombie’s hand with passive rigid body so that the cone will go flying as he makes contact.

My second shot I am working on is going to be a morph shot. Basically the actor is standing in a mirror and as he moves his head around, he will morph into a monster head. Right now I am working on matching the movement of the actors head so I can have a smooth morph.

Anyways, let me know what you think of the shots and I would love to hear your critiques and suggestions! I will try to keep updating my WIPs on a weekly basis.

Thank you in advance for all your help!

***As I said in my other post, for some reason Vimeo won’t let me embed unless I use this code which for some reason posts 2 videos. Sorry!! I’ll try to fix it asap.

Spider CG Model

Hey everyone, I’m still not the best at modeling and certainly not with the hair/fur modifier in max. I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to make the fur look more realistic? Color correction helps but I feel there is just more I could do. Thanks for all the help! -Sam

kind of a monolog / argument

I’m currently working on this piece for my school. This head realy exists but because my current school has no real equipment for soft-camera movements we decided to take photos and comp it inside of nuke on top of a 3d model made inside of blender.

pwd: nuke

this is a first test of a couple of shots. The animation is quite long, I think. And the music is for no reason. I wanted to try it…..

Also the animation is not projected 100% correctly in this example. I fixed that already (the last few seconds you can see parts that should have been hidden by the object’s nose)

would appreciat any kind of feedback 🙂

Character Textures

Hey, this is my first post! This is an old school assignment that I UV’ed and textured, I did not model it. I’d like some feed back on my UV’s.

What would you recommend I do to improve this piece?

3D Hair

This is an exercise in the use of materials and textures for cg characters. We had to make the hair from nurbs planes.

Any tips to make it more believable?

Balloon Project WIP

Hi there,

this is a project i have been working on for my show reel, since I am working on this from home and don’t have the benefit of having dailies. I would love to have some feedback about what I have so far.

In a manner of breakdown, for this shot I have done sky replacement, keying of talents in the ground and in the balloon, CGI balloon and talents integration. Though I am not looking for work as a 3d artist I have also done the 3D elements.

Thank you in advance for any feedback and advice!

Tracking in Nuke

Hello!
I am currently taking Visual Effects at the Art Institute of Vancouver and have just began to get into Nuke. I haven’t done much to date, but I thought i’d post one of the simple tracking shots that I did for an assigment. I realize it isn’t much but feedback of any sort would be greatly appreciated!

In the shot I replaced the sign on a fridge (which was previously Snapple brand) with a Coca Cola sign.

Here is the link to the video: http://www.vimeo.com/23273415

Thanks, Taylor

Demo Reel Piece

This is a piece that I’m working on. I want it to be fun and bright. Working on adding light streaks.
