Houdini Fireball Problems

I am gearing up for a new scene + tutorial to go along with it as I am learning about PyroFX. The shot is basically going to be a large explosion that is visible from space and clears out some cloud layers with a blast wave as well as some scorched earth effects. The only problem is, when I try to make my fireball localized for some test shots (I am trying to use a box that is close to the surface for now), nothing happens. Big fat nada. If I use the sphere that I am using for the planetary surface it works, but not the box or grid.

Anyone have any ideas on why this would be?

On a side note, if anyone can direct me to some great fireball tutorials for Houdini, I would love to get some assistance from some other aspects from there.

When I put together the tutorial, I want to do it as a series, so I can get a few other things put together before I need this, but it would be nice to be able to get the explosion looking right.

Need inspiration for something like a portal between dimensions

Hey Folks, I’m the new guy!
In this term we are supposed to produce a sci-fi short in video technics.

We a planning the script right now and it is about a guy travelling between dimensions.
Because I hate working under pressure, I already started to try out several effects, we going to have to use.
Now I’m stuck designing a portal, which the actor has to jump to switch dimensions. I have to admit that I have no idea how it should look like. I browsed the web a while now for inspiration but I’m not satisfied.
The portal from Kevin Smith’s Dogma came to my mind, but I’d like it to look more energetic.
I appreciate everything you think could help me!

Where can I find this book for less?

Hey guys,

I’ve been looking to buy and read the Art and Science of Digital Compositing (2nd ed) by Ron Brinkmann… The "cheapest" I could find it was for around $50 which I can’t really afford! Its so hard to find a used copy anywhere too. Does anyone know of a way to get this book at a discount or at a student price? Used, new, anything.

Appreciate the help, thanks!

Scripts for rendering in silhouette

Hello everybody
i am looking for a script that can be added on to silhouette by which i can render out all the roto mattes in one go. we have around 1000 polygons in a project and rendering each roto matte is extremely tedious.

basically what i need is rendering more than one roto matte at a time…is this possible?

Thankyou
Jepps

How should i go about filming blood splatters?

Im interested shooting my own blood splatters and impacts. Such as what is found in videocopilots action movie essentials. But i like most of my work to be my own. I read a post on this site that had info on the matter, but i was wondering if i could find more in-depth and detailed how to or set up or if any of you could help me with the matter i would greatly appreciate it!

if this is to much to ask i will understand.

I guess i posted this at an awkward time where noone was awake ahah

Camera test.

This sequence was shot in San-Diego dessert and is a part of a project we are working on right now.

But there is a reason why we uploaded this particular clip.

It was shot on a Panasonic NV-GS75. I got this camera many year ago, and it sure does not look like a proper film camera. It is just an example to show you people that it really does not depend on the camera you shoot with.

You can make everything look cool, as long as you have the right components…and the camera is just one of many components you need. Even for a silly clip like this one.

I hope my message comes across here.. Just go out there and Film! Guys there are way to many people who don´t even dare to film a movie because they think, they do not have the right equipment… I can only tell you one thing.

I bet your film is better than my first movies!

WorldPosition pass sl

Hi,

Not sure where to put this cause its not specific for Maya.

I would like to know the command to create a world position pass shader in renderman.

At the moment I have:

surface Worldpass()

normal Nw = normalize(ntransform("world", N));

But not sure how to finish the rest.

Hope someone can help me.

Cheers.
