Overall Job Purpose:
  • To provide a wide variety of dynamic simulations for character-based work, including clothing, hair, muscle and skin.
Responsibilities:
  • The creation of simulation rigs for characters and creatures, using Maya nCloth & additional proprietary tools
  • Shot execution using simulation rigs, and the delivery of finished assets to the Lighting Department
  • Liaison with other departments involved in the creature workflow – eg, Modelling, Rigging, Animation & Lighting
  • Involvement in the development of Departmental tools and techniques
Key Skills & Experience:
Essential:
  • Previous production experience on CG creature projects
  • Proficiency in using Maya
  • Experience with some of the following types of dynamic simulation: cloth, hair/fur, feathers, skin and muscle
  • Experience of creating simulation rigs and setups for shows
  • Good problem solving skills
  • An appreciation of both the aesthetic and technical requirements of the role
  • A good eye for detail
  • A strong work ethic, and a willingness to be involved in both development & shot execution
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a challenging and deadline orientated environment
  • Good understanding of pipeline and workflow issues
  • Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to liaise across departments
Desirable:
  • Programming/scripting experience (eg. mel, Python and/or C++)
  • Experience of developing tools, scripts and plug-ins to help streamline workflow
  • Modelling skills
  • Rigging experience
  • Good understanding of Maya constraints and deformers
  • A knowledge of Syflex or any other simulation software
  • Experience of working under a Unix/Linux systems environment

A minimum of 4 years education or 5 years motion design or creative direction work experience

Advance knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Cinema 4D

Key Accountabilities
This is a varied role to support the daily activities of a busy Systems Department: Computer workstations require setting up and artists need help with their workstations. New equipment requires unpacking, checking, tagging and installing. Old equipment has to be decommissioned and disposed of. Computer machine rooms, wiring closets and other technical areas need to be kept clean and tidy. Technical assistants help make all this happen.

Key Tasks/duties –
• Setting up and moving artist workstations.
• Providing general help to other members of the systems team.
• Assisting artists with requests for peripherals and basic troubleshooting.
• Helping repair faulty workstations and servers.
• Helping with workstation builds and software installation.
• Helping with equipment installation / removal and associated documentation.
• Keeping the machine room and other technical areas clean and tidy.
• Keeping on-site storage areas tidy and organised.
• Returning faulty equipment to suppliers.
• Keeping track of spare parts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • OS and Workstation deployment – Mac/Windows/VM
  • Coordinate with remote teams for network and security changes
  • Data Backups – Configuration, maintenance, monitoring and reporting
  • Core servers – maintain, monitor, upgrade and ensure uptime
  • Desktop Support for admin users

Requirements:

  • OSX, Win7, Active Directory, Exchange, Terminal Services
  • Minimum 3 years Windows system administration experience
