DIE VERBOTEN MAKES WHITE HOT IBIZA MIND SAND.

Picture 7A collaboration between Soulwax, Fergadelic, and Riton has yielded the audio/visual/galactic space project that is: DIE VERBOTEN, a krautrock influenced musical experience that comes with some pretty complex record sleeve origami created by Fergadelic. A DVD will be released at a later date but for now you can order up some heavy vinyl, wear your kaftan, and head to the white hot Ibiza sand of your mind.

Lil B Flips Out, Starts 100 Myspace Music Pages.

l_6434844842d38c71e91f42b18595378d

According to one of Lil B’s 100 myspace pages, he’s in Beverly Hills “working”; i.e. lacing syrupy choruses over Air France and M83 samples while he freestyles for 6 minutes intervals in between base hits. Some of it is loosely focused and a lot of it us ….uh….less so. But from what we hear on the internets, the Pack is dunner then done and Lil B is just gonna keep maxing out his song playlists and adding as many myspace music pages as possible til he gets rich. And why not?? There is no shortage of girls taking naked cell phone pics of themselves while writing Lil B all over their spray tanned bodies.

Volume 09: Paul Devro

If you are a one legged zombie dragging yourself through the jungle with a boombox strapped to your back, trying to get to the next latin oldies party at the bottom of a waterfall, then this mix is for you. Paul has been a dear friend of WMIG for a long time and we have too many stories involving werewolf masks, rabbit tacos, Andy Milonakis, breaking into pools at 5am, and late checkouts to fit into this post, so we’ll let the zombie anthem speak for itself. Little bit of Salem, little bit of Kelis, little bit of Mad Decent faves, Major Lazer; it’s all here just in time to sweat it out for summer!

“I tried to make this mix different from most of the mixtapes that i receive from people.  I tried to not make it about new niche genres, super exclusive mp3s or even themed.  I just put together a bunch of songs that i have always liked and that I wanted to share.  There’s a bit of everything in here and i tried not to go too over board on the weird dial. Anyways, I like this mix, maybe a bit too many sirens but its 8am and i’m too tired to take them out. Hope you enjoy!” – Paul Devro

Thomas Bangalter Dances About Art.

daft-punk-ed-paschke

The latest issue of ‘whitewall’ magazine features an exclusive interview with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter. Apart from Daft Punk interviews being generally uncommon, this one’s fairly unique in that it steers clear of the more conventional topics of DP related conversation, and more towards Bangalter’s sensibilities and influences when it comes to Daft Punk as an all medium encompassing work of “art”.

Call Response.

Hey friends, check out this new remix from Friend. Also, let’s see how many times I can use the word “friend” in the following write-up.

Download: Memory Cassette – “Last One Awake”

Woah… steel drums! Summer’s really here!

Now we normally don’t give away songs for download, but we were contacted by and encouraged by our friends over at Acéphale to do just that. This exclusive remix from our previously shouted friend, Friend, comes as a preview of sorts for their next release, Memory Cassette’s “Call and Response EP” with Swedish boutique label, Sincerely Yours

As per usual with these fancy little boutique labels, the four track EP comes pressed exclusively on 7″ white vinyl and is limited to 500 copies. You can pre-order it from Acéphale’s website for release at the end of the month.

Until The Light Takes Us.

light_cropped

Black metal, black metal, black metal. Our fascination with church-burning, satan-worshipping, Norwegian nutballs is bottomless and with the genre’s growing popularity there is no shortage of documentaries or photo spreads to keep our brutal tastes satiated. Until The Light Takes Us is a little better than your average black metal doc though, spending significant time dissecting the core of how black metal became what it is today and how it has spiraled into something completely beyond anything it’s creators could have imagined.

Not really sure how to classify this percussive amalgamation from London based Friend, but I hope it signifies the ushering in of more music that makes me yearn for cherry blossom lined streets and Pocky. “Doki” is from Friend’s debut EP “Shima”.

Radio Soulwax – FOR REAL!

2 Many DJs are actually launching a “real” online radio station to coincide with their ever evolving Radio Soulwax concept. No sponsors, no ads. Just music. Keep an eye on SOULWAX.COM and wait patiently for the end of May!

Vistalite

tivolivistalites

Dorkface Alert: Some of us at WMIG went to school to be audio engineers a long, long time ago. Meaning that while learning how to edit 2 inch tape, solder wire, and play with the Linn Drum Machine, we also spent hour after hour micing and crudely tuning drum set after drum set. Now, having recorded EVERY genre of music, the only thing that we actually miss about those bygone days is micing up a beautifully preserved, original Ludwig Vistalite. This was the drum set that John Bonham endorsed in the 70s that had cool names like the Jellybean and Tequila Sunrise? ya ever heard? Eventually discontinued when the Tivoli model sounded the death knell with it’s high concept christmas light design. Too expensive, too many melted drum sets, and too many broken dreams. From a design perspective they still look pretty fantabulous and I wish I could make them into my desk. One day.
