Ceiling on fire

Hello everyone,
I’m trying to recreate something like this:

I’m creating nature "moments", shapes of fire and water. I’m using Maya and
Rf and I’m cheeking a bit of FumeFx.
I wanted to create a ceiling on fire. I’m kind new to Maya Fluids so I´m
having a hard time here.
This is not for commercial use but for my Master Thesis in Computer
Animation.

Camera Data formats

I’m working on a personal project to strengthen my understanding of mel and I want to convert camera data from maya to other programs like ae and nuke. I know this has been done before, but I want to try and get a grasp of it myself by writing my own converter.

What I want to know is what is the best way to access the camera data from maya, and also what are the acceptable formatting for both AE and Nuke for tracking data text files.

I opened up a .ma file and looked at where I thought the camera data was and so i’m picking that a part trying to figure out what everything means inside it. But if anyone can point me in the right direction for cam data formatting that would be great.

Help with nCloth and friction maps

Hi, I’m new with maya nCloth and I’m trying to make a simulation of an object (box-like) sliding down a ramp and stoping at the end without falling of.

First of all, I’ve made the ramp as a passive collider and the box as a nCloth with rigidity of 10 (is that engough to make a solid object??).

Than I figured out that you can assing a friction map to the nRigid node. I attached a ramp texture with a gradient from 0 to 1 but it seams not to be working.

Do you guys have any idea what am I doing wrong? Or a better idea on how to make this effect?

Selecting faces problem

This is going to be a hard one to describe. When I want to select a face or faces of a polygon in face mode, all I get is a red outline when is wireframe, and nothing when it’s shaded. I know things are getting selected because I can manipulate them even though I can’t see what I selected. What I want to see is that nice blue outline and face dot when I’m in face mode and the orangish ability to highlight. But right now I have none of that.
I’m using 2010 by the way.

I am getting a the error ‘TpolyBasket::completeMeshCallback when trying to render on a renderfarm. This only happens in 2010. I converted the file back to 2009 and it seemed to work fine. Anyone have any idea what this is?

Maya starter: Object with multiple materials, merged as 1 object?

Hey guys, I got a (hopefully simple) question. I’ve got an model in maya which seems it consists out of different parts. However, it is selected as one single object, and I can’t seem to separate them (not with ungroup at least).

However, they got different materials assigned to it, one shiny grey phong, one matte black phong, and one transparent glass looking phong.

These are actually the three objects I would like to separate. Since they got different materials assigned to it, it seems like they’re separate objects. Is there a way to separate these objects ?

Creating wrinkles on just born baby

Hello there, i’ve done a just born baby model and rigging in maya, i thought of doing wrinkles on hands n legs with the blendshape as i can animate them, but the shapes are heavily required than i thought, can i do them in texture?. cud someone suggest me wich is the best of creating wrinkles on polysurface when animated.
