Problem with dolly?

when i work with MAYA while dolly the scene the scene is s trucking and not zooming properly. I updated the video drivers still problem not rectified.

Not sure why but my vray light material is reflecting in places it shouldn’t be. See attached. Anyone know why this is happening

Rendering Shadow pass?

Anyone know the simplest way to render a shadow pass? I’ve been rendering it with layers, and then adding it to passes, but its taking so long (having to render out beauty and shadow). Any tips or somewhere to find this answer?

simple extrude question

when I extrude, it seems that there remains an extra duplicate face/vertex/edge at the extrusion point (in addition to my extrusions which is translated away)

anyone know why this happens? and how to prevent this? thanks!

fbx vertex cache not working with ncloth

Hi all
I have exported an obj sequence from houdini to maya as an fbx with a vertex cache. I want to use this as a passive collider in an ncloth sim.

I am able to assign the model as a passive collider but when i sim the cloth just ignores this model

is there an ncloth setting that ignores vertex caches. If i delete history i lose the cache (therefore the animation) but the collisions work. is there a way around this?

Anisotropic Render Artifacts

I have a model with an anisotropic material and when rendered I get artifacts. It’s only in one spot is what I don’t understand.

The piece was modeled in subd and converted to polygons. Now, I switched back to subd and it’s not like an artifact but I get a specular streak where the artifacts were.

Converting to nurbs I don’t have the checkered artifacts or streaking but my pieces are split into multiple patches and when rendered with nurbs I can see the seams.

The geometry is clean, good uvs and looks fine with all other materials. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix?

I’ve played with tesselation settings on nurbs, subd and polygon and no change occurs. Strange.

Vray for maya IOR help

Im having trouble building a car window shader in vray. Basically I want car windows that have little to no refraction so that the interior of the car is not distorted, but I want the accurate index of reflection of glass. So it seemed that the best way of achieving this was to unlock the fresnel IOR from the Refraction IOR. However when I do that the Fresnel IOR causes the reflections to act completely differently than when the fresnel is locked to the refraction IOR.

So when I have the fresnel locked to the refraction IOR at a setting of 1.6 , the reflections look and act great, but the refraction through the windows totally distorts my interior.If I set the refraction to 1.0, unlock the fresnel, and then set the fresnel IOR to 1.6, the interior looks good but the reflections are dim and the IOR is wrong.

The window geo is just one flat plane. Could that be a problem?

Does anyone have any suggestions?
