Two coffee mugs colliding

Hey everyone,

I have an idea for a FX shot that will have two coffee mugs colliding. You know, say you "cheers" a little too hard and the cups break. What is the best way to go about this?

The cups will have keyframe animation on them so I’m a little confused how to get a dynamic crash simulation in there. Does maya have something built in to accomplish this efect?

I downloaded the blastcode 1.7 demo and the shatter map looks great but I don’t know how to break anything with out the use of some blastcode explosion in the mix…

Any suggestions?

Thanks! PP

Raytracing / Ray Depth

I noticed while rendering there are hard shadow artifacts on the wings. At first I thought it was a uv/ seam issue but it’s not.

In the Raytrace Shadow Attributes for my key light if I turn off Ray Depth Limit it will go away though I lose my cast shadow information overall.

So, I have attached an ipr screenshot showing the artifacts to the left, Ray Depth Limit = 1. To the right is with RDL set to 0. I want to keep my shadows but get rid of these strange dark bits on the ends of each wing.

Does anyone have any idea of what’s up?

Light Radius = 4
Shadow Rays = 15
Ray Depth Limit = 1

vray light cache and 2 sided mtl question

I am experimenting with the 2 sided material in vray. I am trying to make a slightly transparent curtain. I have a 2 sided material with two identical white base materials. My main issue is when i add a little opacity to the base materials my light cache takes forever to render. Is this normal? Ive tried refraction instead which renders quick but looks crappy and gray. Also the curtain geo has a little thickness to it .

Thanks for any info
