Nuke Viewer not updating (became very slow)

Hi, I was working fine on Nuke5.2, suddenly it started to become very slow.. I installed Nuke6.0 and the result is the same slow. The other computer is working very fine with the same software.

Probably I installed an asset management software trial (Grid Iron FLOW) which also installed .NET Framework 3.0 on my machine. Since then the Nuke is acting very slow. I have even uninstalled it but no avail.

I’ve tried cleaning the Nuke buffers, caches etc, deleted all the temp files and system administration cleaning and stuff like that.

My system configuration roughly

Quad Core 6GB RAM – NVIDIA 7600 GT
Windows 7 (64) – Nuke 5 (64) – Nuke 6 (64)

I’d really appreciate if someone could help me.

Heat maps to aid keying

Hello,

Some colleagues mentioned an interesting idea this evening. Can infa red heat maps aid the keying process in compositing for green, blue, blackscreen for live action and effects work? I’ve noted some limitations such as breathing, farting will show up in the heat map and that clothing might not absorb the heat from the wear evenly. However more promising is the idea of using heated or cooled liquids for water tank work. Again a limitation here would be that heating the liquid or substance would change the way it acts when in the water.

Is the technology there to record a good plate and an infa red map at the same time? Seems like the idea has some promise. Has this technique been used before?

Thanks.

VFX project using a SONY HC7 ?

Hi Everybody,

I was going to post this in the preproduction forum but I cant access it due to privileges…

I am planning to shoot a on location, an old nazi gun tower. My plan is to shoot most of it by hand or steadycam and basically bring the scene back to life with 3D airplanes, nazi trucks and jeeps, and bombs flying down at the tower whilst its trying to shoot down the airplanes.

Since my only experience is really with compsositing and the 3D aspect, I was wondering if anyone has used this camera before, and also wether anyone can give me some useful tips on things to keep in mind?

I know for example that I need to limit my panning because of rolling shutter (which I believe I can fix with Nuke’s rolling shutter plugin) but are there any other REALLY IMPORTANT aspects that I need to know in order to make the shot work well for 3D tracking and matchmoving?

Oh the camera im using is a sony-hc7 and here’s a link to its info:

Thanks a lot for the help in advance…

camcorder options

hi I’m looking towards getting a high quality camcorder for VFX but dont know what to get, I’m looking for a good all rounder.
Something that shoots at HD 1920×1080 with no jerky footage and noise. Also want something thats good in low light and outdoor shots.
Budget around AU$1,500.00

Some say I should go for the Sony HDR-XR150E, but what are your opinions.

Thanks.

bying mac from usa ship to canada?

OK guys, I need a new Mac Pro. Pretty soon. Its to expensive in canada…. the prices are just ludicrous since the mac pros were announced when the dollar was weak.

Is there any way I could buy one from the US? And have it shipped here to Canada directly, or via a friend who lives in the US new york?

Couldn’t a friend technically ‘send it to me as a gift, or loan’? That way I could get around the import duties? and tax

Though, what ARE the import duties/tax Is there any way to work it out? If they aren’t too much, I’d pay them.

Building a computer for doing 3d work

Hi guys

I’m in the process of selecting the components for building a new computer, but i would love to get a general feedback before i make the purchase.

Let me first begin by telling you what i will be using the computer for: Primarily, this will be my everyday computer, for surfing the web, gaming, as well as 3d character building and animation – through Poser, Cinema4d, 3dStudioMax, Vue, Zbrush. (with majority of the work first done in poser… then importing them to the other software for touch ups and render)

for the case:
Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

or
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…ck%20Steel%20A

Processor(cpu):
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…82E16819115215

Graphic Card (gpu): just one:
XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…01GB%20256-bit

Motherboard is still undecided, but most likely one that supports sli or crossfirex so i can run two graphic cards at the same time in the future if i do decide to get another graphic card to lessen the time required for rendering.

memory: most likely will start out at 4 gigs of ram.

Question:
is this good enough of a rig for what i want to be doing with the machine? is i5 enough? the reason i’m getting i5 is so i can save some money and put that towards the graphic card and getting other decent components for the computer… hard drive, ram, power supply, case.. etc.

how about the graphic card i selected? is it good for doing 3d work? it is an ati card, but if anyone can suggest a better graphic card in relatively the same price range, i’m open to suggestions (doesn’t have to be ati since i haven’t really decided on a good motherboard yet)

lastly, if anyone is tech savvy, how about a motherboard recommendation? one around the 170-199 range. supports either sli or crossfirex or both, as well as all the other good stuff like sata3, usb3. etc.

WS vs mac pro

Hi everybody, I’m pretty near to buy my new WS and everything was clear of what I had to buy, but…

Lots of people in the 3D and video comping world use mac.
I was thinking some epecs like this:
DELL 7500 2x Xeon 5540, 2xSAS HDD, quadro 3800 (or GTX 285), 12gb RAM. It costs about 4000euros.

Then, my doubts are:

Do I have to think about buying a Mac pro intead of a WS (dell for ex.)
I use 3D Max, Nuke, AFX, photoshop…

Thanks a lot.
