Heat maps to aid keying

Hello,

Some colleagues mentioned an interesting idea this evening. Can infa red heat maps aid the keying process in compositing for green, blue, blackscreen for live action and effects work? I’ve noted some limitations such as breathing, farting will show up in the heat map and that clothing might not absorb the heat from the wear evenly. However more promising is the idea of using heated or cooled liquids for water tank work. Again a limitation here would be that heating the liquid or substance would change the way it acts when in the water.

Is the technology there to record a good plate and an infa red map at the same time? Seems like the idea has some promise. Has this technique been used before?

Thanks.
