Life ain’t bad these days when you’re Spike Jonze, the mayor of Awesome Town. Especially when the MoMA decides to do a retrospective, figuratively titled Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years. In time for his latest cinematic release on the 16th, the two week jaunt at the museum celebrates his comprehensive work in all of it’s glory. From cross-dressing with a bunch of skating jackasses to existential musings with Malcovich, appreciate the man’s game in the last week of his love fest in the Filmmaker In Focus series.

We don’t want to play Nostradamus, but lets make it approachable and enter the world of make believe. If this whole global warming thing isn’t a farce and those crazy liberals are on to something, than we need to decipher a contingency plan for when mother nature decides to spank us.  Thanks to Andrew Kudless and his team over at Matsys, they’ve already mapped out a scheme for a sub-terrain community for when shit hits the fan. Sam Jinks is into freaky deeky shit, and not the “lets get nasty with our bad selves,” rather, “I wanna make a replica of your carcass as if you were possessed by the undead.” Unlike most kids, the Australian sculptural artist grew up consumed with comics and horror leading to a “how can I freak you out?”-kinda-future. These haunting pieces of hyper-real sculptures are detailed views of a fascination with life, death and the ugly struggles in between. Get a taste of the surreal after the jump.

When her cat Thomas isn’t perched on her head, the designer is creating a new wave noir look that is far too dark for her feline enthusiasts. Having worked with Anna Sui and ThreeAsFour, her cache of experience and eccentricities might make you think twice about the man wearing a cat on his head seen at Union Square.
