Design Currency; Money Counter

Update: rethinkcommunciations.com and Giant Ant Media have been slaving late nights on an experimental motion piece using a money counter… and a lot of printed paper bills! The animation is for the upcoming international conference in Vancouver ~ Design Currency 2010. Rethink designed actual 100 D (Design Dollar) bills, Giant Ant Media animated it coming […]

Press Pause Play Trailer

I found this quite inspiring; the teaser trailer for Press Pause Play, the first film to capture an emerging generation of global creators and artists … the teachers aren’t certified schools anymore – it’s web sites, discussion forums and a “learn by doing”-mentality … Collaboration over hierarchy, digital over analog – a change in the […]

WILD THINGS DOWN UNDER.

wtwta

If you haven’t seen Where the Wild Things Are (we haven’t), then pick up the new issue of Interview Magazine to see some super duper sweeeeeeeeeet photos from our neighbor, Ari Marcopoulos. He flew to the land of OZ to shoot some photos of Spike, and some monsters, while on the set of one of the most hyped movies of all time. Not sure if James Gandolfini was hiding in the monster costume or what the deal was but you can check it out HERE.

GAME APPRECIATION FOR SPIKE JONZE.

kanye-west-spike-jonze-girl-skateboards-films-1

Life ain’t bad these days when you’re Spike Jonze, the mayor of Awesome Town. Especially when the MoMA decides to do a retrospective, figuratively titled Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years. In time for his latest cinematic release on the 16th, the two week jaunt at the museum celebrates his comprehensive work in all of it’s glory. From cross-dressing with a bunch of skating jackasses to existential musings with Malcovich, appreciate the man’s game in the last week of his love fest in the Filmmaker In Focus series.

‘COCKSUCKER BLUES’ SURFACES ON WEB.

Bianca and Mick Jagger

Notoriously banned documentary, Cocksucker Blues, is available to be streamed in 9 parts on the web for what we’re sure will be a very limited time. We have no idea if it’s good, bad, whatever (hardly anyone has ever seen it fully) but we DO know it’s really hard to find. According to legend: Really massive epoch defining rock band- the Rolling Stones- thinks it’s a good idea to have a camera follow them around while touring for their most challenging, drug-addled record to-date until they see what’s on the film and then they ban it. Time heals all wounds so maybe everyone will be stoked for Cocksucker Blues to see the light of day but you never know, so run over HERE and watch that shit before it evaporates into thin air.

12 MINUTES OF BALEARIC-NESS.

Here in WMIG land we have a massive, collective boner for everything that Acephale’ Records tells us we should be into, and in all reality, who can argue with Patrik North’s track record: SLU Records, Tough Alliance, he tipped us off on the hole Banjii girl scene that was happening in our own city, Salem and the list goes on and on. So, when the dude throws 2 videos your way that were created as companion pieces for Memory Cassettes newest E.P. you know you’ve got at least 12 minutes of solid Belearic entertainment. SCREWING AND SHOOTING ARE THE SAME.

terrorDM0703_468x398

The Baader Meinhoff Complex is set to hit the US sometime in August after struggling to find a distributor for it’s racy depiction of the RAF’s reign of hailing bullets, flaming bombs, and death. For now, stoke your revolutionary terror flames with this awesome trailer and get ready to fandango that shit as soon as it hits the theatre!

Germany in the 1970s: Murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the still fragile German democracy. The radicalized children of the Nazi generation led by Andreas Baader (Moritz Bleibtreu), Ulrike Meinhof (Martina Gedeck) and Gudrun Ensslin (Johanna Wokalek) are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by the German establishment, many of whom have a Nazi past. Their aim is to create a more human society but by employing inhuman means they not only spread terror and bloodshed, they also lose their own humanity. The man who understands them is also their hunter: the head of the German police force Horst Herold (Bruno Ganz). And while he succeeds in his relentless pursuit of the young terrorists, he knows hes only dealing with the tip of the iceberg.

DROWNING CATS.

p3-06

Danilo Parra is a photographer, filmmaker, and artist who lives, breathes, and sleeps in Brooklyn, NY. His epic cat torture film fits in nicely with our previous post about Lola Dupre but as you scroll through his work it becomes apparent that dude has a well rounded visual aesthetic that stretches far beyond drowning cats in slo mo. Check out a selection of his work after the jump.
