Colapesce – L'Altra Guancia

“L’Altra Guancia” is the first song released on New Year’s Day by Sicilian songwriter Colapesce. The videoclip – made by Ground’s Oranges – refers to plots, photography and framing typical in the filmmaking themes of the decades between the ’40s and the ‘60s. Strong noir atmospheres swiftly become a means of access to this feminine and psychological drama. A rough love story, death, regrets occur in an upper middle class environment. The tragedy itself almost put the protagonists’ gender in the background: the whole story is happening between not only two lovers but two anguished human beings. The prologue and epilogue could be considered open to the viewers’ discretion. Filmed in one day only in the magnificent Plemmirio Natural Reserve and the abandoned lighthouse of Capo Murro di Porco (situated near Siracusa, Sicily) “L’Altra Guancia” is also a honest homage to Alfred Hitchcock, Michelangelo Antonioni, Ingmar Bergman and their timeless and inspirational masterpieces.

Redundant military vehicles slowly consumed by nature over time. This hardware, built to withstand the heat of battle slowly crumbles and rusts. Trees grow from the hulks, metal turns to ferns, they sit drowned in pools of water. A metaphor for the battle that nature must fight against the worst that mankind can throw at it, and the tenacity that nature possesses. A timelapse short with music by Machinefabriek. Screened as part of ‘Cinema Nova’ Episode 13 on Northbay TV, USA. Jan. 2015

Novalia PrintedMIDI for DJ QBert's Album cover

Want to be some of the first to get your hands on some exclusive printed MIDI? Register your interest at http://www.novalia.co.uk/portfolio/printed-midi/

Novalia worked with DJ Qbert to create the world’s first interactive DJ Decks in an album cover.

QBert’s Kickstarter funded Extraterrestria album features a set of working Bluetooth MIDI decks and controls that connect to iOs and OSx. Touching the paper connects to the Algoriddim DJAY app, allowing the user to scratch, mix and fade any songs they load into the software.
Complete with two decks, a cross fader and an array of SFX buttons beautifully printed onto paper using printed electronics and artwork designed by Morning Breath for QBert, the decks demonstrate the possibilities for interconnectivity between the physical and digital in a way that can enhance user experience.

Talking about the technology behind the technology behind the product, Novalia’s Dr Kate Stone comments

“We believe the future will look more like the past than the present, where beautiful old school things we love and are nostalgic about will not die as many have said. We hope to breathe life into things like books and album covers, keeping the creativity in physical products alive. We work at the interface of the digital and physical, taking the essence of the digital world and putting that digital DNA into beautiful physical objects which have intuitive touch, connectivity and data beneath the surface and are manufactured by processes such as regular print”
