Presets?

Hey guys. I am new here 😀
Do you got any nice websites with a lot of free presets?

Also for making rain do you use presets/image/animation/effect?

Thanks!

Does AE 7.0 do 16bit projects? urgent!

when I try to change my project settings to 16bit – that section is greyed out!
does this mean I need “Pro”? or am I just doing something wrong – I just want to output some 16bit tiffs!

please help I have a deadline in 2 days!

Pro Juice TV – After Effects Tuts

Hey All

I’ve created a brand new website for VFX, Audio and Multimedia producers for all competence levels. It’s at www.projuice.org

Pro Juice is a weekly presenter driven online portal and television series about music, video and multimedia for ‘guerrilla producers’ that want to make, distribute and market their media. An ever expanding demographic, ranging from industry professionals to the legions of creative types who dabble in all forms of digital media.

There’s a bunch of cool stuff up there now and more to come weekly from now on… Look out for a cool tutorial on creating mortal combat style weapons, colour grade techniques, twitch style effects and more!!

I’ll keep this thread posted as new tutorials are posted!!

Cheers

Nick

[CS3] Roto off by one during render only

I am 100% confused, and this won’t be a long post although this is totally weird.

During preview, everything is fine. Stepping through that is; during RAM preview or during render, all roto’ed layers are one frame off, making everything look totally bad!

Has anyone ever experienced this and maybe fixed it?

-update-

Single frame render goes fine. I haven’t got a clue.
I think I’ll make a script that outputs every frame to the render queue. But a normal solution would be better.

multiprocessing in CS3

Hey guys this my question

when you enable multiprocessing in AE it says that in order to get better performance from
the instances of AE you need a minimum of 400mb but if you want better speed you should reduce the ram available to your main Ae instance in order to free up the space for the instances

so if you run a 3gb ram system and you have a 2core processor then the main instance of AE would be set to max ram usage which is under 3gb and the second instance would only have 400 mg available this option i understand will make it run slower

so having the main instance only use 2gb would free up a gig for the second instance and then Ae would run faster

my question is this .. i run a 4 core system with 8gb of ram
so my main instance runs at full ram cap on a 64bit system and that leaves 5 gb free
so dose that mean the other instances dont get any ram becouse my first one is set to max and AE cant acces more then 3gb or not

I allso read that every AE instance will open its on 3g of max ram so techencliy Ae would be able to utilaze more then 3gb or ram
any ways i am ranting my quesiton is on my 8gb system do i keep the use max ram on my settings and the other ae instances will use the rest of the free ram or do i need to drop it to like 2gb or somthing so the other instances work faster couse my AE is not working as fast is id like it has truble with like a DV comp somethings and i think i am just setting something up wrong

Thanks guys

Audio is off while rendering in AE

Hello everyone,

I wonder why I don’t hear any audio while I click ‘play’ or the ‘spacebar’

The video plays, but I hear nothing. What if I want to sync the audio with something. Is there anyway to hear the audio, watch the video, all live and at the same time ?

Thank you-

Video gets Darker after rendering

Hello, am I really the only one who experience difference in video when exported from AE, compared to original footage in FCP?

Example: I export a DV-PAL QT from FCP/ import it into AE and render it without adding effects, just for the test/ import it into FCP/ Result: video is darker than original.

I’ve tried the compressions: None, DV-PAL, Animation (horrible result) and Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2. Needless to say, I always use best quality settings.

This is puzzling me big time…

Thanks for advise //Erik

Separating smoke from footage

Hi,

I am looking for a trick or tutorial that shows me how I can create a grayscale or alpha smoke matte from actual footage.

Imagine video footage of something, and then there’s smoke entering the screen. Because I want to put a layer underneath the smoke, I think it should be possible to extract just the smoke.

In theory, I think stabilizing the footage and using a still from before the smoke enters the screen to ‘calculate’ what is smoke and what is back plate might work. Sort of like a difference key, except the smoke is supposed to be partially transparent.

Any ideas for an approach or does anyone recall an article or tutorial about this?

Maintain quality AFX-FCP

Hi,
I wish, once and for all, to straighten out how to maintain the quality of a DVPAL clip when rendered from AE into FCP.
I’ve noticed, in AE before rendering to FCP, I need to change the default position 288 up to 286 to maintain the original position in FCP. I choose compression DV – PAL and interlaced (if the clip was shot so). As interlaced, I choose Lower field order first (I’ve heard FCP likes that while PAL). Still I find there’s a slight difference from the original clip in the FCP timeline.
I’m aware of that adding a lot of effects and color adjustments might affect quality but besides from that.
Greatful for advise! //Erik

Copy or render visibile percentage of partially obscured layer

I was wondering if there’s a trick to copy the visible amount of a layer covered in partially transparent layers to a new layer (adjustment layer) or render it out with an alpha channel?

This would be convenient to create for example a color cast or glow on top of everything that only originates from that layer.
